Are you holding onto something you need to let go of?
O
There was once an old
lady who cried all the
time. Her elder daughter
was married to an umbrella
merchant while the younger
daughter was the wife of a potter.
On sunny days, she worried, “Oh
no! The weather is so nice and
sunny. No one is going to buy any
umbrellas. What will happen if
the shop has to be closed?” These
worries made her sad. She just
could not help but cry.
When it rained, she would cry for
theyoungerdaughter.Shethought,
“Oh no! My younger daughter is
married to a potter. Pots cannot
be made without the sun. Now
there will be no pots to sell. What
should we do?” As a result, the
old lady lived in sorrow every
day. Whether sunny or rainy, she
grieved for one of her daughters.
Her neighbors could not console
her and jokingly called her “the
crying lady.”
One day, she met a monk. He was
very curious as to why she was
always crying. She explained the
problem to him. The monk smiled
kindly and said, “Madam! You
need not worry. I will show you
a way to happiness, and you will
need to grieve no more.”
The crying lady was very excited.
She immediately asked the monk
to show her what to do. The
master replied, “It is very simple.
You just need to change your
perspective. On sunny days, do
not think of your elder daughter
not being able to sell umbrellas
but the younger daughter being
able to dry her pots. With such
good strong sunlight, she must be
able to make plenty of pots and
her business must be very good.
When it rains, think about the
umbrella store of the elder
daughter. With the rain, everyone
must be buying umbrellas. She
will sell a lot of umbrellas and her
store will prosper.”
The old lady saw the light. She
followed the monk’s instruction.
After a while, she did not cry
anymore; instead, she was smiling
every day. From that day on she
was known as “the smiling lady.”
S
everal weeks after a young
man had been hired, he was
called into the personnel
director’s office.
“What is the meaning of this?”
the director asked.
“When you applied for this job,
you told us you had five years’
experience.
Now we discovered this is the
first job you’ve ever held.”
“Well,” the young man replied,
“in your job advertisement you
said you wanted somebody with
imagination.”

“Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.”
H
ow to know how much
potential I have?
I am sure this question must have
crossed your mind so many times.
I have come to conclusion now
that we will not know the answer
to this question unless we are ex-
posed to a situation outside our
comfort zone. Today, at what-
ever position we are, think about
it. Whenever we have gained
anything i.e. confidence, power,
prestige, position, it must have
happened after doing something
inconvenient, uncomfortable or
difficult or different. Therefore, I
firmly believe that “every pain is
not painful and every comfort is
not comfortable”.
How do we know the power of
our car without technical knowl-
edge or manual? By accelerating
we can see how much can it take.
Similarly, how much pressure do
we take / handle and exposure to
bigger challenges is the only way
to check our true potential. It is
better to “wear out” than “rust
out”. So, the simple answer is
S-T-R-E-T-C-H. Stretch yourself
and you will know how much po-
tential you have. Death is not the
greatest loss in life. The greatest
loss is what dies inside us while
we are still alive. It is said that,
“One day our entire life will flash
in front of our eyes. Let us make
sure it is worth watching.”
“A bird sitting on a tree is never
afraid of the branch breaking, be-
cause her trust is not on the branch
but is on its own wings.”

“Without action, you aren’t going anywhere.”
M
any a times in our
lives we feel like our
world has fallen, all
the things we have ever worked
for or thought about doesn’t exist
anymore and finds no real reason
to wake up to see tomorrow. We
start doubting our own strength to
fight against all the obstacles that
comes in our way and wants to end
up our life. However, some people
do opt for this but they taste noth-
ing else than the bitterness of life.
We need to understand that no
one can ruin our life, it is we
who ruins our own life by tak-
ing wrong decisions, or else fail
in proving the taken decisions
could be right. It is very common
that certain things that happen in
our life are out of our control but
we cannot let these things define
us because these are simply the
words, events or the moments in
our life and not THE Full Chapter.
Life is much more what we think.
It is a gift that brings lot many
unique experiences to all of us.
Now what is important is to be-
lieve in yourself. Whenever you
feel that something is difficult and
you won’t be able to achieve just
recall any past experience of your
achievement. And say it to your-
self what Dorothy Dix has said,
“I STOOD YESTERDAY, I CAN
STAND TODAY AND I WILL”
because you have already stood
for yourself and challenged all
the ups & down then I believe you
can stand today as well for your-
self with the right mental attitude.
So don’t be late in taking the right
move with the right attitude, no
matter how small the move is.And
this move of yours will certainly
help you to understand that you
have all the power to change your
life the way you want it. And also
understand that no one else can do
this on your behalf. It is “you” who
has to take the action for yourself.
