Faculty roles are changing
Technology is a constant factor
Consumerism in general
Opening comments about the changing landscape of higher education and the increased need for faculty development.
A few highlights:
As we know more about how students learn, pedagogies have emerged that a quite different from the traditional lecture/test model
In competency based programs, faculty are becoming coaches
As technology evolves everyone must learn to cope
Our students are more diverse; many arriving underprepared
In general, given increases in student debt and less confidence in the quality of education, families have become more demanding consumers of education
