This document summarizes Vivo's image upload and storage process at Duke. It describes how Vivo uses a custom JRuby application to handle user uploads and cropping. Images and thumbnails are stored in a file structure and referenced by URIs in RDF triples. These triples define properties like filename, download location, and relationships between images and people. Configuration options and resources for further information are also provided.

1. Vivo Image Uploads at Duke
• We replace Vivo editing with our own JRuby application
• User -initiated upload and crop with dependencies:
• JRuby, Rails, Carrierwave, JQuery, ImageVoodoo
• We also can run batch loads using Carrierwave API

3. Image Crop
• Default thumbnail: 200 x 200 (whatever works with
your layout)
• We store the original uploaded version as the main
'image'

4. RDF Nodes and URIs
• Image
• uri: Namespace + 'file_i123456' (123456 is person's uri)
• Thumbnail - uri: 'file_t123456'
• Image Location - uri: 'i123456' (no 'file')
• Thumbnail Location - uri: 't123456'
