I am an ambitious and personable individual with an eye for detail and a flare for creative
problem solving. I have a wide range of experience in a range of marketing and
communications disciplines including: marketing planning, procurement of marketing
services and products, commissioning design, design build and maintenance of web
sites, business to consumer marketing, business to business marketing, brand
positioning and development, event development, social media management, customer
relationship management, public relations and media liaison. I have a proven track

Skills and experience
I am an experienced marketing and communications professional with 16 years
experience in a variety of sectors including local government, private sector, training and
education. As Head of Marketing and Communications for a Further Education College
with an annual turnover of £11million I have gained a wide range of transferable
knowledge skills and experiences. I have played an integral role in a £16million campus
redevelopment, which has culminated in the complete refurbishment of retained building
and the creation of a bespoke digital and creative arts faculty. I am currently developing
strategies in relation to marketing and communications activities with a major city
secondary school to better manage and promote its reputation as a credible choice for
pupils and parents in Carlisle.
I managed the production of all marketing and sales materials, communications and
have a proven track record for conducting research based marketing and
communications activities, monitoring the impact of traditional campaigns and social
media activity to demonstrate return on investment, inform future planning and
demonstrate impact on the bottom line. I am also responsible for handling crisis
communications in relation to the College. I have acted as a Briefing Officer as part of
the Cumbria Wide Disaster Recovery Team. I have lead in the development of online
marketing and communications using social media platforms, email marketing and SMS
based communication. I have also managed the development of bespoke websites and I
am experienced in using a number of content management systems.
I have developed excellent working relationships with a range of stakeholders including
the Association of Colleges, Association of Market Towns, Chambers of Commerce,
charities and public private sector partnerships. I am also experienced in supporting
sales teams to maximise sales to exceed targets.
I am experienced in producing tenders for products and services managing procurement
including design and marketing agencies and for capital projects. I recently attended the
University of Cumbria Project Management Master Class to build on my project
management skills, which I have used on capital and revenue projects and activity
including the launch of a funded training for business programme as part of the Cumbria
Local Enterprise Partnership and the planning, production and delivery of high quality
marketing projects and materials. These are highly transferable skills.
I have developed marketing strategies and action plans to meet business needs, which
include market research, competitor analysis, demographic and economic trends, and
changing organisational priorities.
I have taken a lead in the development of a range of strategic and public events
including celebration and recognition events, sales focused events and managed entries
to the Cumbria Golden Apples securing 3 awards in the first year.

Work history
November 2016 – to date Richard Rose Central Academy - Marketing and
Communications Officer
I am responsible for devising and implementing an internal and external Marketing and
Communications Strategy to ensure that the school communicates in a consistent,
accurate and professional fashion with all stakeholders, parents, pupils, staff, governors,
feeder schools, partnership schools and the wider community in Carlisle.
I am responsible for devising and maintaining the Marketing and Communications Plan
including activities for social media, use of mobile technologies, admissions activities,
advertising, copywriting, proofreading, web support, media relations and schools and
colleges liaison.
September 2015 – to date Eden District Council – Licensing and
Enforcement Officer
I deal with a range of non-health licensing and regulatory functions including licensed
premises, taxis, boats, boatmen, small lotteries, house to house and street collections
and gambling in the district of Eden.
The function is part of the Legal Services team and deals with legislation under the Local
Government Miscellaneous Provisions Act, Licensing Act and Gambling Act. The
principles at the heart of the role are the licensing objectives; the prevention of crime and
disorder, public safety, prevention of public nuisance and the protection of children from
harm.

large events in the district which are Kendal Calling, Wannasee Festival and Appleby
Horse Fair. I chair a number of Safety Advisory Group meetings coordinating agencies
to ensure the safe running of large scale events.

College with regards to report of underage drinking.
April 2010 – July 2015 Carlisle College – Head of Marketing and
Communications
I was responsible for all marketing and communications activities for Carlisle College a
small FE college with 2500 students, 200 staff and an annual turnover of £11million. I
had responsibility for the ongoing development and implementation of the College’s
Strategic Marketing plan with a specific role to improve the College’s local, regional and
national profile through the generation of positive press coverage. I had responsibility for
the oversight and administration of cross College marketing and communications
activities, and provide support for departmental activities working with stakeholders to
produce high quality publicity materials and online activity including web site
development and social media. This included school liaison, recruitment, business
development, marketing, PR and events. I worked closely with the board of governors,
senior leadership team and directors on the delivery of the Strategic Plan and worked
with external agencies, funding bodies, media partners, design agencies, customers,
students and staff. I was responsible for all external facing marketing and
communications online and offline. I was also responsible for producing all internal
communications, including a newsletter, weekly briefings from the chief executive and
communication with staff on major strategy development and change agendas. I
managed and administered to social media platforms and provide training to staff.
