Today's networks are becoming increasingly complex; there are more devices to support, more bandwidth to provide, more power to boost, more manpower required and more expertise needed to manage it all. Deciding how to manage the required operations infrastructure to support these networks shouldn't be so complex. There are really three options: do-it-yourself (DIY) in-house, outsourcing certain functions to the cloud or managed hosting. With DIY, the company is responsible for owning its own hardware, supplying its own staff and building its own in-house expertise. While outsourcing to the cloud may seem easier up-front as there's no equipment to buy, companies will have to be prepared for issues with performance and stability, as well as still take responsibility for resolving issues. The third option, managed hosting, involves outsourcing basically everything except a company's code, so staff can focus on core competencies and innovation. Spiceworks Voice of IT was recently commissioned by operations-as-a-service managed hosting provider Peak Hosting to survey IT professionals in the United States to assess the challenges IT pros face during hosted service evaluation and use. Data was collected in July 2014 from 122 interviews. This slide show summarizes the top 10 reasons to hire a managed hosting service provider.
