Muster Station Leader (MSL): in charge of operations (donning lifejackets, launching life raft,…). Each MSL takes a VHF radio working on CH.08 and proceed.
Muster Station Checker (MSC): check personnel /T-cards. Assist Muster leader. In order to avoid communication jam, head counting report should ONLY be made ON REQUEST of BM.
Muster Station Assistant (MSA): assist muster leader/checker (lowering ladder, launching life raft).
Backup Muster checker: replace missing muster checker ON REQUEST OF BM.ABANDON ORDER ONLY GIVEN BY THE BM
Duties during fire fighting (FIFI):
,[object Object]
Deck FIFI SQUAD: under command of Deck Foreman. FIRST group to attack fire when a situation occurs on DECK area. Always wear FIFI equipment and proceed.
Support Squad: under command of Deck Foreman or 2nd Engineer depending on the location of fire. BACKUP group of Deck FiFi squad. Always wear FIFI equipment and Stand By.
E/R FIFI SQUAD: under command of 2nd engineer. FIRST group to attack fire when a situation occurs in ENGINE ROOM area.
SPECIAL DUTIES: under command of Chief Engineer for special duties.
HELIDECK SQUAD: FIRST group to attack fire or initiate rescue when an incident occurs on helideck using FIFI equipment or crash rescue box available.
FIRST AID SQUAD: under supervision of Medic. In charge of bringing stretcher and/or any necessary medical outfit. Assisted by the stretcher bearers. In order to deal the most efficient way with any emergency situation, a quick and adequate response is essential. Therefore the good knowledge of your duties and equipment is essential. As part of the response team you should be familiar with both of them.
ESCAPE ROUTES
centercenter
16510234315
The Self Contained Air Breathing Apparatus
PURPOSE:
This SOP outlines the procedures to ensure that equipment is in the “ready to use status” and is used correctly. It also ensures that personnel stay familiar with that equipment.
PRIMARY RULES:
SCBA must only be used in an emergency situation and only by trained personnel
Never use breathing apparatus on your own. Always work in pairs
Breathe normally
Be comfortable
Check your apparatus visually
Perform the “positive” and “negative” tests.
36652203317240DEFINITIONS:
Second-stage regulator (SSD):what attaches the supply-air tube to the face mask (see picture).
-222255991860Airflow controller:
membrane at the bottom of regulator (see picture).
Provides an increased flow of air to the face mask (*). Used if breathing is laboured. Can also be used to clear fogging in face mask or a burst of air to cool face.
User can control amount of air entering face mask. Gently push on membrane to open.
(*)Beware of increased air consumption. Check pressure gauge !
The Self Contained Air Breathing Apparatus
Purge valve - silver button on the side of SSD.
Press to stop delivery of air to the face mask and to purge the delivery hose.
PROCEDURES:
Step 1 -INSPECT SCABA BEFORE DONING
• Visually inspect equipment. Check condition of mask (facemask, head harness & lens for cuts, scratches, missing buckles), backpack (straps & buckles for cuts, tears), cylinder (dents, gouges), hoses (cuts, cracks, bulges), SSD (damage, debris). Disregard any SCABA with any obvious damage.
Step 2 - PRELIMINARY TESTS
To be done prior donning the SCABA.
40379657197090Bottle pressure test: fully open the bottle and check the pressure. Reading should be between 250 and 300 (We are using 300bar pressurized bottles). Replace bottle if below 250.
High pressure leak test close cylinder valve and watch manometer pressure should not drop with more than 5bars every 10 seconds.
If both tests are O.K open again cylinder valve.
Remember: when replacing bottle separate empty bottles from the full bottles’ rack to avoid any misunderstanding.
47625001004570The Self Contained Air Breathing Apparatus
Step 2 - DON THE SCABA
Don the cylinder and backpack, adjust straps and waist belt to ensure correct and comfortable fit.
Ensure the pressure indicator is in a position so the dial is easy to read. Ensure straps are not twisted and hoses are not routed through harness webbing.
Step 3 - PERFORM TESTS
Don the face mask and adjust straps to correct fit, starting from the two chin straps and then working your way up.
Breathe normally; as the bottle is still open air supply will automatically open as soon as you start breathing. Stay calm and do not panic.
Perform the negative test. Close the bottle completely with one hand and keep your hand in stand-by position on the knob. Inhale normally and slowly. With your other hand check the pressure gauge. As you breathe the pressure will decrease. Once reaching the orange zone on the gauge an audible signal will be emitted (audible alarm test).
53568607697470As the pressure reaches zero, the facemask, is fitted correctly, will collapse against your face. If not, make further adjustments of the straps and retry.
Turn cylinder valve back on and breathe normally.
Perform the positive test (leak test). While breathing normally, insert a finger under the edge of the face mask and create a deliberate leak. Doing this should cause a high airflow from this point.
DO NOT USE IF EITHER OF THESE TESTS FAIL
The Self Contained Air Breathing Apparatus
Remember: do not yet fit the facemask and breathe your precious oxygen if you have to walk to the emergency scene. Proceed to the zone with the facemask’s neck strap around your neck and FIT IT AT THE LAST MINUTE, JUST BEFORE ENTERING THE DANGEROUS ZONE.
Step 4 REMOVING THE SCBA
Ensure purge valve is closed.
Loosen head harness straps and remove facemask.
Turn cylinder valve clockwise to OFF position.
Undo the waist belt and loosen shoulder straps. Remove apparatus.
Release any air trapped in the system by pushing on the airflow controller (membrane).
Fully extend facemask straps.
Bring back equipment to safety station.
PARTS OF THE SCABA
BCEDFGHIJK
Pressurized bottle 300Bar
Backpack
Bottle knob/First stage regulator
Pressure gauge
Second stage regulator connection
Facemask
Shoulder straps
Waist strap
Head straps
Neck strap
The Self Contained Air Breathing Apparatus
FIREFIGHTER’S EQUIPMENT:
Jacket & SCABABoots & Trouser
Safety HelmetGloves FlashlightLifelineEmergency axe
LIFELINE SIGNALS (OATH method)
SignalAbreviationBy wearerTo wearer1 pullO stand for OKEverything is O.KIs everything O.K ?2 pullsA stand for AdvanceGive me more slackI give you more slack.3 pullsT stand for Take BackPick up the slackI pick up the slack.4 pullsH stand for HelpHelp me out immediately !Come out immediately !orHelp is on the way.
Fire & Fire Extinguishers
FIRE TRIANGLE
2838451052195
The 3 elements needed to produce a fire are:
A source of ignition – HEAT
Something that will burn – FUEL
A support for combustion –AIR
Fire says…… whenever you find me, inform the fire service department by means of the general alarm, Restrict me by making fire safe zones and compartmentation by means of passive fire protection (closing door), and Extinguish it with active measures.5428615153035DISCOVERING A FIRE
FindInformRestrictExtinguish
FIRE CLASSIFICATIONS
Fire & Fire Extinguisher
TYPE OF EXTINGUISHERS
751840775970
13779505986145EXTINGUISHERS COMMON FEATURES
Fire & Fire Extinguishers
USE FIRE EXTINGUISHERS (PASS Procedure)
Powder extinguisher
Foam extinguisher / gun
378142574803030067256592570-361956645275
29641807570470
Fire & Fire Extinguishers
CO2 extinguisher
REMEMBER with CO2 fire extinguishers:
Never hold nozzle with bare hands, use hand grip ( risk of burns).
Never use in an enclosed space without SCABA ( risk of suffocation).
4540885702310-238125191770
Water extinguisher
20828076835
Use the P.A.S.S method
FIRE HOSES
