20. Malacky A Short Look into the History Záhorie, part of Slovakia around Malacky, is a lowland rich in pines bordered by mountains Little Carpathians and Morava River. The town of Malacky has always been the centre of the region. The first written evidence about Malacky dates back to 1206.
21. Malacky was an important town on the trade roads. Malacky started to grow in 1622 when Pavol Pálfi – an important nobleman – moved into the town. He started construction of a renaissance-style chateau in Malacky.
22. The town expanded. Pavol Pálfi began to build a monastery and a church which he gave to the Franciscan Order 1653. You can see the monastery and church with some fortification even today.
23. In the 19th century, the Napoleon´s troops looted the town and stole food in 1810. Cholera spread and a lot of people died. However, people in Malacky survived the hard times then and many times after, and now their grandgrandchildren are still proud of their town.
