2. The problem.
• As Broadband technicians we have to check
every faulty line without any hi-fi line testers.
• BSNL doesn`t own any such costly
SNR/Attenuation – ADSL testers for LL Copper
Line.
• Presently we are relying only on the DSL lamp
of the modem at subscribers office and if DSL
is not steady then it is difficult to diagnosis.

3. • What if the SNR leakage happens at any other
place between MDF and Sub Office, Our staff
have only HMT or a telephone to check the line
health (which is not reliable as noise need not be
in audible form)
• A perfect line on telephone/HMT may have high
attenuation.

4. So, we need a tool?
Our requirement is a simple modem like box
with
• SNR/Attenuation display any-time, any-
where between MDF and Sub Office.
•Which should be battery powered and
handy.

connect it anywhere in the circuit.
•We can observe the SNR leakage

hours of line staff.
•So BSNL will have better Quality
Of Service.

make such a tool called SNoW (SNR Over
WIFI) by yourself with locally available
accessories
• Make It Yourself.

15. Software Required
• DSL information of a line is available in the
Modem once the ADSL is UP
• Use TELNET to access the modem Command Line
Interface(CLI)
• So many free telnet clients are available in the
Google Playstore (You can develop one instead!)
• I picked an app called BktSnrSet from the
playstore.(I just don’t want to reinvent the wheel)
• Though BktSnrSet is made for adjusting SNR
value of a modem, we can customize and use it
for our specific purpose.

• And wait to get the DSL lamp steady.
• Connect the Phone to
Modem`s WIFI Network.
