2. Growth from the North report (2015)
cooperation between Finland, Sweden and Norway in the Arctic
members of the working group were Mr. Risto E. J. Penttilä (CEO of Finland
Chamber of Commerce), Ms. Magdalena Andersson (County Governor of
Västerbotten) and Dr. Anne Husebekk (Rector of the University of Tromsø)
task: to identify new ideas and practical ways of promoting economic
cooperation between Finland, Sweden and Norway in the Arctic. Each
Nordic country has its own strengths in the region that should be developed
through joint efforts to benefit all three:
1) LNG and renewables, with Norway in the lead;
2) Greener mining solutions, with Sweden in the lead;
3) Increased tourism, with Finland in the lead; and
4) Ice and cold climate solutions, with trilateral spearheads
requires intensified cooperation and strong political commitment from the three
governments and private sector

4. Finland’s prospects in arctic economic
growth (2015)
report by former PM Paavo Lipponen
Some picks:
1. Under the leadership of the state authorities,
cooperation between the Nordic countries will be
intensified in the field of energy. The Nordic countries
must strengthen their competitive position and
actively influence the development of EU energy
markets
2. Northern universities will be strengthened and
cooperation between them developed. One Arctic
University, capable of competing internationally, will
be set as a goal.
3. The role that companies play in drafting Arctic policy
must be strengthened.

Search and rescue in the High North (SARiNOR)
During autumn 2012, Maritimt Forum Nord and
Maritim21 took the initiative to launch a pilot project
concerning search and rescue in the Arctic. The rise in
shipping and offshore activities in this region will
require new solutions if safety at sea is to be kept at
an acceptably high level. The objective of the pilot
project was to design a major international project on
maritime search and rescue actions in the High North.
