1. ART OF BEING ASSERTIVE
Woman is considered a weaker sex. This common perception goes back
to the beginning of time! ‘Frailty, thy name is woman!’ Shakespeare
couldn’t have said it better. But why? Why women are considered the
weaker being? Let’s contemplate here for a moment, about this paradox,
shall we?
We grow a human inside us; bear the pain of bringingitto the world.
But we are weak?
We take the responsibility of the whole family, care for their
wellbeing putting ourselves at the back. We are frail?
We ignore our wishes and give priority to our loved ones’ demands?
We are fragile?
We are working women and go back home to look after our kids’,
husbands’ needs and manage household as well. We are feeble?
Let me break itto you! NO, WE ARE NOT WEAK, FRAIL, FRAGILEOR
FEEBLE!! Then why do we think so?
We think so because we have been told this concocted lie from the very
beginning.‘It’s all in your mind’seems such a cliché statement, but it is the
truth. We don’t lack in anything. But getting our mind to reset to this
empowering attribute; that takes strength. We have to overcome ages of
brain washing to break the shackles of conventional thinking.
I know it seems an uphill task, but with a little effort and consistent
mindset, this milestone can be achieved. Working women all over the
world, without any discrimination of race, class or region, have to face one
obstacle that is very common. Being assertive! Women have to struggle
more to move up the corporate ladder than men. We are treated differently
2. and handled differently nomatter where we are working. Sowhat shall we
do?
Assertyourself! Here are some useful things that we can do to make our
voice heard and heeded.
1. Learn to say no. If you think that the demand is wrong, say no to that
and be assertive about it.
2. Never let anyone patronize you unnecessarily. Regarding senior’s
opinions is one thing, becoming a puppet is completely different.
3. In managerial positions, women face the biggest problem of being
taken lightly. You should assert yourself in a firm way from the day
one, so that people start taking you seriously.
These are some of the pointers that I wanted to share with you. In
practical life, you have to make some tough choices. Make them without
hesitation keeping in mind; you are in no way any lesser than men when it
comes to being a working lady, a mumpreneur or a businesswoman. You
deserve respect and appreciation! So ladies, know this: you are beautiful,
and you are invincible!
