of the ‘October Days’ of 1917 (23-27 October). Use a
colour scheme or key to show which developments were
a result of:
•Lenin’s actions and/or leadership
•Trotsky’s actions and/or leadership
•Chance
•Poor planning
•Kerensky and/or the Provisional Government’s actions
Activity 2: In pairs construct a timeline of the key events
of the ‘October Days’ of 1917 (23-27 October). Use a
colour scheme or key to show which developments were

Causes of the
Bolshevik’s rise to power
• Question (c) - is an essay question and will focus on
your ability to evaluate a historical claim by using
source evidence and your own knowledge. In
answering this question you must offer support to the
historical claim as well as challenge the claim.
• To obtain above 8 marks you MUST explicitly quote a
minimum of 3 of the 4 sources.
• A balanced Judgment must also be given.
• (15 Marks) – Suggested no more than 27 minutes

•Offer your own contextual knowledge to add further Evidence to support
your argument.

•Aim for minimum of 3 to 4 points to support the claim

•Use the sources AND your own knowledge to CHALLENGE the claim.
•Must EXPLICITLY quote the sources through out.
– To challenge this claim Source A states that…
•Offer your own contextual knowledge to add further Evidence to back up
your argument.
•You must explain (not just described) how each point challenges the claim.
•Aim for minimum of 3 to 4 points to challenge the claim
CONCLUSION:
•Finish by giving a balanced judgment (your opinion) comparing the relative
importance of two or more points.
