COVID-19 AND EDUCATION
IMPACT AND CONSEQUENCES ON STUDENT
LIVES

COVID 19
• November 2019, when the news of outbreaks
has came out in WUHAN, CHINA.
• While, INDIA was still unaware of this deadly
virus until MARCH 2020, it hit us hard around
MARCH, 2020.
• A Nationwide LOCKDOWN was imposed in
March 2020.
• By mid April, 99% students was affected by
school closures worldwide.
TRYING NEW THINGS
GETTING TO DO WHAT WE ALWAYS WANTED TO:
 We felt happy about this holidays.
 We were getting a lot of free time which,
otherwise we couldn’t have.
 We were trying to be productive and to
make more of this time.
 The LOCKDOWN was supposed to last for a
mere 15 days- few months.
 In this way… gradually things god bad for us
when the lockdown get extended.
• ADVANTAGES • DISADVANTAGES
Adoption rate less than
50%
The blue screen effect to
the eyes.
Overall development
hampered
Low concentration power?
Shrinking attention
Taking classes according
to own convenience
Comfortably attending
classes
Digitalization
enhanced collaborative
learning.
Nowhere near effective as before

OPEN BOOK EXAMS
Not much pressure of
study
Board exam appearing
student got more time
Entrance exam delayed
Unstable internet
connection
Academic integrity loss
Uncertainty of dates
Contract cheating and
file sharing
Major issues with admission in higher education courses.
National sample survey 2017-2018:
•Only 28.3% Indian households have internet connections
•Only 16% women have mobile internet access while males stand at 36%
UNICEF:
•Over 1.5 million schools across India closed down, affecting 286 million children.
Big Qs Student Survey:
•47% per cent students have decided against migrating to another city for higher
education
•50% students abandoned plans to pursue higher education abroad
India ranks first for the world’s largest youth population at an astounding 600 million
people under the age of 25.
Education ministry budget:
•Budget for digital e-learning was slashed to Rs 469 crore in 2020-21-the year Covid
struck-from Rs 604 crore the previous year
Education: less important subject due to covid
Government schools
 They were mostly lacking e-
learning facilities.
 Unable to access educational
resources
 Nutrition and food security was
hampered ( mostly rural areas)
Private schools
 Having the minimum
facilities to conduct online
classes
 Continuation of studies as
much as possible
( resourceful)
Stuck at

No playing

What consequences does that bring?
It’s itself an slow pandemic.
Highly increased amongst covid19
Covid 19 stress is positively
connected to social media addictions
A pseudo sense of relief.
Long term hazard to health.
MOOD
ENERGY
PRODUCTIVITY
Most problematic thing.
Mental health declined.
Frustration increased/monotony
Resulting in major downhill in study
time.
Mood swings increased.
