Lupita Nyong’O
They could be the next Marilyn, Meryl or
Morgan. Whether on the silver or small screen, you
shouldn’t forget these fresh faces, says RachelLaw.
Hollywood’s ‘It’ girl
An Oscar for her first feature film
role (12 Years A Slave) is all the
reason we need to fix our eyes on
this promising, eloquent and graceful
actress. But her breakthrough success
is backed by active cinematographic
involvement ever since her first
professional play at 14. Lupita acted in
plays organised by the Phoenix Players
(a Nairobi-based repertory company),
worked as production crew for multiple
Hollywood films, appeared in
many stage productions
while undertaking a
master’s degree at the
Yale School of Drama,
not to mention she
has written, directed
and produced a
documentary of her
own, which by the way,
was screened at a few
film festivals and snagged
her a top prize.
Go loco over
Lupita next in...
Star Wars: Episode VII –
hopefully. The starlet was
approached before the
Academy Awards to discuss
the prospects of a female
lead role in the upcoming
Star Wars’ franchise.
Lupita is also rumoured
to be headlining a movie
adaptation of acclaimed
2013 novel Americanah.

So close!
The Kenyan-Mexican
actress almost won a deal
to play Tiger Lily in the live
re-imagination of Peter
Pan, Pan (2015), but losing
out to Rooney Mara isn’t
too bad though!
The boy who wears
many hats
Not just the one he wore as lobby boy
Zero Moustafa in The Grand Budapest
Hotel (2014). As though he was born
for Hollywood, Tony’s portfolio was
launched when he was just two,
starring in a baby-food commercial
then nailing a string of minor gigs on
TV shows such as Entourage, My Name
Is Earl and Shameless. At 18, Tony is
finally experiencing a taste of stardom.
His character, as opposed to his
A-list colleagues in the Wes Anderson
production, appears in almost every
scene and essentially ties the storyline
together. The Californian teen’s ‘other
hats’ include writing songs, playing
instruments, but above all he is a
cinematography genius in the making
– actively writing, producing, directing
and starring in screenplays.
Gal Gadot
Lily James
The first Wonder
Woman on the
big screen
Hush the critics! If there’s
anyone who can handle an
intense regime of kung fu,
kickboxing, swords and jiu-
jitsu in preparation for the
Amazonian warrior-princess
role, it’s got to be Gal. The
former Miss Israel after all did
serve two terms as a sports
trainer in Israel’s Defence
Forces! Before her big break
as Gisele in three franchises of
The Fast And The Furious film
series, Gal was modelling and
playing a lead role in an Israeli drama. The 29 year old and mother of one
was part of the cast for Date Night and Knight And Day (2010) as well.
Cape up!
We’ll be seeing lots of Gal as Wonder Woman in Batman vs. Superman
(2016), a Justice League movie (2017) and a Wonder Woman standalone –
OH YES, PLEASE!
The new
Cinderella
It took Lily Chloe Ninette
Thomson merely 12 episodes
in two TV dramas – Secret
Diary Of A Call Girl and BBC
production Just William – before
she rose to fame as Lady Rose MacClare in the critically-
acclaimed period drama Downton Abbey. Naturally from
there the English starlet, now 25, made her way onto
the silver screen, appearing in Wrath Of The Titans, Fast
Girls and Broken – all in 2012! The live-action adaption
of the 1950s Disney-animated fairytale, currently in post-
production stage, stars Cate Blanchett and Helena Bonham
Carter as her wicked stepmum and fairy godmother
respectively.
Rock those glass slippers:
Emma Watson and Saoirse Ronan were said to be in the
running for the title role but alas and hooray, we’ll be
seeing Lily as Cinderella in 2015!
Lily vs.Rose
"I have a love-hate
relationship with her.
She's really shallow but
she's got a big heart."
– as told to Time
Out London
Tony
Revolori
Talk about
sibling rivalry!
Tony had to compete with
elder brother Mario as
they were the only ones
who made the final cut
in the casting of
Zero Moustafa!

Theo James
Margot Robbie
The upcoming
action hero
With a statuesque build, masculine
body language and several butt-
kicking movie roles, Theodore James
Taptiklis has locked down the vital
ingredients to be the next Tom
Hardy. Trained at the Bristol Old Vic
Theatre School, the English actor
has had a fair share of endeavours
on TV and in film since 2010. Theo
led the cast of supernatural drama
Bedlam and American crime drama
Golden Boy, and starred opposite
Kate Beckinsale in Underworld:
Awakening (2012). This year, all eyes
will be on the 30-year-old hunk in
the highly-anticipated, sci-fi action
flick Divergent, based on the Veronica
Roth debut novel.
Conquering 2014:
Catch the 1.85-metre tall eye candy
in crime mystery London Fields with
Amber Heard and Johnny Depp, and
indie drama Franny with Richard
Gere and Dakota Fanning.
The latest Aussie breakthrough
Gold Coast-born Margot Elise Robbie is one of
Tinseltown’s most-wanted actresses for a good reason:
exquisite looks aside, the 24 year old is a true-blue
drama queen. Margot jumped straight into professional
acting at 17, starred in two feature films before a
three-year stint in Aussie soap opera Neighbours,
which snagged her two Logie nominations. Her move
to Hollywood was more than welcomed; she promptly
secured a role in American drama Pan Am although
it only lasted a season. Her most unforgettable
performance to date was in The Wolf Of Wall Street
(full-frontal nudity or not).
More of Margot in...
Suite Française (2014), Focus (2014), Violent Talent
(2014), Z For Zachariah (2015) and Tarzan (2016)!
PS Margot reportedly ousted Amanda Seyfried for
the leading role in Z for Zachariah, whoa!
The Sundance show-
stopper
Her role in drama film Smashed may have
gone unnoticed at the 2012 Sundance Film
Festival but this 1.78-metre tall actress was all
the critics could talk about the following year.
Her stellar performance as a suspicious daughter to
Guy Pearce’s and Amy Ryan’s characters in Breathe In (2013) pinned
her on the map – but she is not to remain as an indie darling. The
27-year-old Vancouver native, who studied in The Neighborhood
Playhouse School of Theatre in New York, starred in The F Word
(2013) with Adam Driver and Daniel Radcliffe, as well as The
Awkward Moment (2014) with Zac Efron.
Make a date with Mackenzie
You may not see her nonchalant allure in the cinemas but
Mackenzie’s next film Kitchen Sink (2015) is a zombie-and-vampire
comedy with Ed Westwick and Vanessa Hudgens also in the cast!
The next teen
heart-throb
You may remember him as
Tommy Ross in last year’s
remake of classic horror
Carrie, his first silver-screen
role but despite the minor
gig, the 20-year-old graduate
of NYC’s LaGuardia arts
high school is no stranger to
acting. During his senior year,
Ansel performed off-Broadway in Regrets with Alexis Bledel and this
year’s line-up will introduce him to the centre stage alongside rising
star Shailene Woodley (The Secret Life Of The American Teenager).
Both young-adult flicks are film adaptations of novels in which Ansel
portrays her sibling in one and her love interest in another.
Sci-fi, romantic drama or comedy?
Ansel stars in Divergent and The Fault In Our Stars this year and soon
in Men, Women & Children.
Mackenzie Davis
Trivia!
Theo played Turkish
diplomat Kemal
Pamuk in an episode
of the first season of
Downton Abbey.
Fun fact!
Despite her million
nicknames – Kinnie, Kin,
Ken, Kenzie, Kenner
– she signs her
emails with Mac.
Zoey Deutch
The natural talent
Her days as Maya in the Disney
Channel Original Series The Suite
Life On Deck may be long gone
(precisely three years ago) but
Zoey Francis Thompson Deutch
is nothing short of a consistent
performer. After her two-year stint
with Disney, Zoey landed cameos in
hit TV series NCIS, a recurring role
in Ringer as well as appearances in
films such as Mayor Cupcake (2011)
and Beautiful Creatures (2013).
Coming from a showbiz family of
two generations, Zoey – a double
major in theatre and visual arts from
the Los Angeles County High School
for the Arts – excelled in ballet,
competitive jazz and tap dancing as
a child.
She doesn’t
suck at all
In fact, the 20
year old headlines
two films this
year: Vampire
Academy, based
on the Richelle
Mead novel, and
Midnight Rider,
a biographical
drama film.
Did you
know?
Margot used to
make sandwiches
at Subway and BLTs
were her forte!
Ansel
ElgortFun fact!
He models, he acts, but
did you know Ansel deejays
too? He produces dance
and house music and posts
his remixes on Soundcloud
under the moniker ‘Ansolo’.
Brownie points if he’s
actually a Star
Wars junkie!
