Rahul Gandhi in UP: BJP is far below in performance than Congress, but ahead in marketing
“Congress does work for all; but we must admit one thing - in Marketing, BJP is very much ahead of us, though they are far
below in performance” said Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi while addressing a mammoth election rally at Pratapgarh in
Uttar Pradesh.
“The coming general election is a battle between two thoughts – one that of Congress which is based on love, affection,
brotherhood and inclusive growth; the other ideology is based on anger, hatred and of pitting one against another” reminded
the Congress leader.
In an indirect at BJP’s prime ministerial candidate and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi lamented, “The
opposition believes that one man can run our country. When their leader boasts about Gujarat’s development and takes the
entire credit for it, he forgets that it is the people of Gujarat, its women, developed the state”. “One person can never run a
nation; it is run by the people; people have the strength. This has been the concept of the Congress party. While we want to
empower our people to the maximum, the BJP wants to grab people’s power and hand over it to one individual” he added.
Emphasising that Congress believes in empowering the people, the Congress Vice President said, “You can see that our
programmes reflect our ideology, whether it is employment guarantee scheme, Right to Information, Land Acquisition Bill or the
Food security Act. All our schemes and policies are aimed at empowering the people”.
Referring the issue of corruption, Rahul Gandhi continued, “There are lots of discussions about corruption. The Gujarat cabinet
has three convicted ministers, who were jailed on corruption charges. The BJP does not see corruption under its nose whether it
is in Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh or Chhattisgarh. Yeddyurappa, former Chief Minister of Karnataka, who had sent to jail for
corruption, is now back in BJP”.
The young Congress leader then struck a chord with the women and continued, “I want to see a day when 50% representation in
Parliament, assemblies as well as in the Congress party is women. Country can never develop if we do not empower our women.
50% of our population is women and if we want to make India a super power, this 50% must be adequately empowered. The bill
for women reservation is still pending in Parliament. But the opposition is stopping its passage; they are scared of the power of
women. They don’t want the women to run industries, universities, Parliament or Assemblies or become Prime Minister or Chief
Minister. Congress wants to give power to the women – in education, in Lok Sabha, in assemblies, politics, business and
entrepreneurship”.
“Opposition indulge in politics of anger and hatred. But Congress’ ideology is based on love and brotherhood. That has been our
tradition and now BJP wants to kill this ideology. They do not understand that Congress is not a party but a concept, which is
deep, rooted in the hearts of all Indians. Our ideology is of equality; we treat everyone equally without any discrimination,
whatever the caste, religion or region is” said Rahul Gandhi and asserted that UP can surge ahead fast only if the non-Congress
political parties stop indulging in divisive politics.

We are soon to face yet another general election. This election is a battle between two thoughts – one that of Congress which is
based on love, affection, brotherhood and inclusive growth; the other ideology is based on anger, hatred and of pitting one
against another.
The same people who talk about development in Uttar Pradesh, assault the people from UP and Bihar in Maharashtra. I had
gone to Maharashtra and had met with the people from UP and Bihar there. They asked me who would save them from such
atrocities. They had shared their pain with me and had told me how the Shiv Sena people threaten them. The same Shiv Sena is
in NDA and an ally of the BJP. In Maharashtra, I purposely travelled by local train to give a stern warning to the Shiv Sena and its
people that no one can suppress the voice of the UPites and Biharis, anywhere in our country.
The opposition believes that one man can run our country. When their leader boasts about Gujarat’s development and takes the
entire credit for it, he forgets that it is the people of Gujarat, its women, developed the state. He forgets that the Amul and
NDDB are the results of sincere efforts of the Gujarat women.
One person can never run a nation; it is run by the people; people have the strength. This has been the concept of the Congress
party. While we want to empower our people to the maximum, the BJP wants to grab people’s power and hand over it to one
individual.
You can see that our programmes reflect our ideology, whether it is employment guarantee scheme, Right to Information, Land
Acquisition Bill or the Food security Act. All our schemes and policies are aimed at empowering the people.
There are lots of discussions about corruption. The Gujarat cabinet has three convicted ministers, who were jailed on corruption
charges. The BJP does not see corruption under its nose whether it is in Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh or Chhattisgarh.
Yeddyurappa, former Chief Minister of Karnataka, who had sent to jail for corruption, is now back in BJP.
Never forget, it is the Congress which gave you the most important tool to fight corruption – the RTI. The decisions which were
earlier taken behind closed doors are now at public domain. Even my letters to the Prime Minister are accessible for the public.
That is the strength of this RTI and it is in fact, your right to fight corruption. You can get any information regarding the
government functioning now using it. It is the Congress which implemented Lokpal Bill. Who had opposed it? It was the BJP
which was blocking it. There are six anti-corruption bills still pending in the Parliament but the opposition is not allowing its
passage.
We had fought for the farmers’ rights in lands at Bhatta-Parsaul and Niyamgiri and Land Acquisition Bill was its outcome. We
demanded just one thing – the poor farmers also must get adequate compensation for the lands acquired, like the rich people
get. We wanted to protect the rights of the poor farmers, who shed their sweat and blood for nation’s development. We wanted
to ensure that they also must get the market prices for their lands acquired. But BJP tried to block that bill too in the Parliament
standing committee. The bill stood pending for two years, but finally we could pass it.
Now I want to share some of my ideas for the future. The first and foremost thing is about empowering the women. Though I am
not seeing much women audience here, I am hopeful that you will pay attention next time to improve it. Not only here, I want to
see a day when 50% representation in Parliament, assemblies as well as in the Congress party is women. Country can never
develop if we do not empower our women. 50% of our population is women and if we want to make India a super power, this
50% must be adequately empowered. The bill for women reservation is still pending in Parliament. But the opposition is
stopping its passage; they are scared of the power of women. They don’t want the women to run industries, universities.
Parliament or Assemblies or become Prime Minister or Chief Minister. Congress wants to give power to the women – in
education, in Lok Sabha, in assemblies, politics, business and entrepreneurship.
Now I want to talk about our vibrant youth; I see them in good numbers over here. They build the nation. We want to generate
jobs for them. Employment generation is possible only if we have more manufacturing industries. The new freight and Industrial
corridor namely Delhi-Mumbai, Mumbai-Chennai and Delhi –Kolkata, will boost the manufacturing sector and will generate
millions of jobs. Today, China is the biggest manufacturing centre in the world and tomorrow that will be India.
Congress does work for all; but we must admit one thing; in Marketing, BJP is very much ahead of us, though they are far below
in performance. I want to tell that we have done a lot for the people here – MNREGA, right to good, railway lines at Pratapgarh.
The Samajparty party had promised 20 hours electricity in Uttar Pradesh. But at present, you can see the electric posts built by
Centre’s Rajiv Gandhi electrification scheme, but no electricity is available.
Congress always fulfilled its promises. We undertook the Highway project here; built roads under PMGSY. We want to give more
and more development projects to Pratapgarh too, like we witness it in Amethi and Raebareli.
Opposition indulge in politics of anger and hatred. But Congress’ ideology is based on love and brotherhood. That has been our
tradition and now BJP wants to kill this ideology. They do not understand that Congress is not a party but a concept, which is
deep rooted in the hearts of all Indians. Our ideology is of equality; we treat everyone equally without any discrimination,
whatever the caste, religion or region is. Our country can develop only if we take everyone alongwith us. There is no place of
anger.
If UP is not developing that is only because the leaders here spread hatred and disharmony among people. They make people
fight each other. That is what we had experienced in Muzaffarnagar. I had gone there. They told me that the Hindus and
Muslims there do not have any hatred among them. But some political parties came from outside and indulged in divisive
politics there.
Uttar Pradesh will surge ahead with full space when the entire youth of this state stand united and fight as a unit for
development. This state has tremendous potential and has the ability to show way to others. If we work in this direction, we can
beat all others in development. I am sure, soon you will see Congress government, both here and at Delhi. You can then see
what real progress would be. At present, your people migrate to other places like Maharashtra and when we stand united and
have a government here, you can see that people from other states, and even from other countries, come to Uttar Pradesh for
jobs. I am with you in this battle and we will accomplish our task.
I have never seen such a big crowd in Pratapgarh. I want to assure our grass root Congress workers that we aim to give its
workers more voice and space in the future and at all levels. You are the pillars of our party. I want to thank all of you for all your
hard works to strengthen our party.
Jai Hind.

You can get any information regarding the government functioning now using it. It is the Congress which implemented Lokpal Bill. Who had opposed it? It was the BJP
  • 3. which was blocking it. There are six anti-corruption bills still pending in the Parliament but the opposition is not allowing its passage. We had fought for the farmers’ rights in lands at Bhatta-Parsaul and Niyamgiri and Land Acquisition Bill was its outcome. We demanded just one thing – the poor farmers also must get adequate compensation for the lands acquired, like the rich people get. We wanted to protect the rights of the poor farmers, who shed their sweat and blood for nation’s development. We wanted to ensure that they also must get the market prices for their lands acquired. But BJP tried to block that bill too in the Parliament standing committee. The bill stood pending for two years, but finally we could pass it. Now I want to share some of my ideas for the future. The first and foremost thing is about empowering the women. Though I am not seeing much women audience here, I am hopeful that you will pay attention next time to improve it. Not only here, I want to see a day when 50% representation in Parliament, assemblies as well as in the Congress party is women. Country can never develop if we do not empower our women. 50% of our population is women and if we want to make India a super power, this 50% must be adequately empowered. The bill for women reservation is still pending in Parliament. But the opposition is stopping its passage; they are scared of the power of women. They don’t want the women to run industries, universities. Parliament or Assemblies or become Prime Minister or Chief Minister. Congress wants to give power to the women – in education, in Lok Sabha, in assemblies, politics, business and entrepreneurship. Now I want to talk about our vibrant youth; I see them in good numbers over here. They build the nation. We want to generate jobs for them. Employment generation is possible only if we have more manufacturing industries. The new freight and Industrial corridor namely Delhi-Mumbai, Mumbai-Chennai and Delhi –Kolkata, will boost the manufacturing sector and will generate millions of jobs. Today, China is the biggest manufacturing centre in the world and tomorrow that will be India. Congress does work for all; but we must admit one thing; in Marketing, BJP is very much ahead of us, though they are far below in performance. I want to tell that we have done a lot for the people here – MNREGA, right to good, railway lines at Pratapgarh. The Samajparty party had promised 20 hours electricity in Uttar Pradesh. But at present, you can see the electric posts built by Centre’s Rajiv Gandhi electrification scheme, but no electricity is available. Congress always fulfilled its promises. We undertook the Highway project here; built roads under PMGSY. We want to give more and more development projects to Pratapgarh too, like we witness it in Amethi and Raebareli. Opposition indulge in politics of anger and hatred. But Congress’ ideology is based on love and brotherhood. That has been our tradition and now BJP wants to kill this ideology. They do not understand that Congress is not a party but a concept, which is deep rooted in the hearts of all Indians. Our ideology is of equality; we treat everyone equally without any discrimination, whatever the caste, religion or region is. Our country can develop only if we take everyone alongwith us. There is no place of anger.
  • 4. If UP is not developing that is only because the leaders here spread hatred and disharmony among people. They make people fight each other. That is what we had experienced in Muzaffarnagar. I had gone there. They told me that the Hindus and Muslims there do not have any hatred among them. But some political parties came from outside and indulged in divisive politics there. Uttar Pradesh will surge ahead with full space when the entire youth of this state stand united and fight as a unit for development. This state has tremendous potential and has the ability to show way to others. If we work in this direction, we can beat all others in development. I am sure, soon you will see Congress government, both here and at Delhi. You can then see what real progress would be. At present, your people migrate to other places like Maharashtra and when we stand united and have a government here, you can see that people from other states, and even from other countries, come to Uttar Pradesh for jobs. I am with you in this battle and we will accomplish our task. I have never seen such a big crowd in Pratapgarh. I want to assure our grass root Congress workers that we aim to give its workers more voice and space in the future and at all levels. You are the pillars of our party. I want to thank all of you for all your hard works to strengthen our party. Jai Hind.
