A multiprocessor is a computer system with two or more central processing units (CPUs), with each one sharing the common main memory as well as the peripherals. This helps in simultaneous processing of programs. The key objective of using a multiprocessor is to boost the system’s execution speed, with other objectives being fault tolerance and application matching. A good illustration of a multiprocessor is a single central tower attached to two computer systems. A multiprocessor is regarded as a means to improve computing speeds, performance and cost-effectiveness, as well as to provide enhanced availability and reliability.

What aspects must a developer be aware of when a Web Services will be run in clustered environment such as a server farm? Do Web Services implementations need to be \"cluster aware\", or can this be handled transparently by the runtime platform? We revisit the subject of why keeping Web Services implementations as stateless as possible really helps in these circumstances, and the effect of using session-based facilities on scalability.

Server virtualization is a technology for partitioning one physical server into multiple virtual servers. Each of these virtual servers can run its own operating system and applications, and perform as if it is an individual server. This makes it possible, for example, to complete development using various operating systems on one physical server or to consolidate servers used by multiple business divisions.

Virtualization refers to the creation of a virtual resource such as a server, desktop, operating system, file, storage or network. The main goal of virtualization is to manage workloads by radically transforming traditional computing to make it more scalable. The server administrator uses a software application to divide one physical server into multiple isolated virtual environments.

Virtualization technologies allow IT organizations to consolidate workloads running on multiple operating systems and software stacks and allocate platform resources dynamically to meet specific business and application requirements. Leadership virtualization has become the key technology to efficiently deploy servers in enterprise data centers to drive down costs and become the foundation for server pools and cloud computing technology. Therefore, the performance of this foundation technology is critical for the success of server pools and cloud computing.

IBM European WebSphere Technical Conference 2010 presentation Application performance issues can be difficult to resolve but can seriously impact your business. In this session we provide you with a solid overview of performance best practices for the current WebSphere Application Server runtime. We will go over a number key components and provide you with real examples of application performance issues from the field. Topics include the JVM and recent advances in Garbage Collection, JMS, the EJB container, the Dynamic Cache Service, HA Manager, thread pooling and transaction management. Note that this session is not an overview of product benchmarks.
