2. Future Opportunities Of Weaving And Knitting Sectors In Bangladesh
Weaving:
Weaving is a method of textile production in which two distinct sets of yarns or
threads are interlaced at right angles to form a fabric or cloth. The longitudinal
threads are called the warp and the lateral threads are called the weft.
Weaving Sector In Bangladesh (An Overview):
Textile industry plays a major role in the Bangladesh economy. It contributes 14%
to industrial production and 4% to GDP. With over 45 million people involved, it
is one of the largest source of employment generation in the country. The textile
industry accounts for nearly 15% of Bangladesh’s total exports.
Bangladeshi weaving industry has traditionally been one of the most thriving
sectors for mass employment. Abundant supply of raw materials and availability
of cheap labor have been major contributor to its success. Bangladesh is the only
country that still creates hand-made fabrics and is able to maintain its cultural
heritage. The world has lost the hand-weaving and loom process, along with the
natural and organic processes of fabric manufacturing.
According to (gain.fas.usda.gov) there are about 800 weaving mills and a total of
over 6,500 registered and over 500 un-registered garment and textile factories
across Bangladesh with majority of the mills situated in Dhaka (56%), followed
by Chittagong (23%) and Sylhet (15%).
Figure: State-Wise Installed Capacity In Weaving Sector
State No. Of Weaving Mills No. Of Looms
Dhaka 450 20200
Chittagong 150 6300
Sylhet 100 4200
Khulna 30 1350
Others 70 2460

3. Future Opportunities:
The number of mills are increasing day by day. For this, employment will be
increased.
In the figure we noticed that production of Weaving sector increased per year.
So it will be an opportunities for our next generation to do something new. They
can increase production. They can export the product & Our country will earn
more foreign exchange.
There are chance to take new challenge as the market is growing so rapidly.
Bangladesh will be a center Country of Weaving sector.
Demand of woven fabric is high. This a good point of us. Because we can make
more woven fabric & cloths.
Bangladesh is earning proximately $32.04 billion dollar in a year. So it will be
another opportunities for us.
In weaving business risk is less.
Woven market dominating all over the world.
Loom machines are so expensive, And as demand of loom are so high in future
In Bangladesh we can make ultra modern loom and we can export them to other
countries too.
Bangladesh can produce more Weaving technician. The people of bamgladesh
also go for abroad for better education of Weaving Technology.
Weaving sector is the heart of Textile industry specially in Bangladdesh. Se we
can make us more modern by producing more product and being more updated
ourself.
Knitting:
Knitting is a method by which yarn is manipulated to create a textile or fabric; it
is used in many types of garments. Knitting may be done by hand or by machine.
Knitting Sector In Bangladesh (An Overview):
Bangladesh is one of the strongest knit garment manufacturers in the world
considering both capabilities and competitiveness. Bangladesh has been a
heaven for producing knit garments for global brands. They are always getting
the best deal here, taking out best quality out of the lowest possible money.
In 2016-17, the total export in this sector was $13.76 billion which is
approximately 6.5% of the global market share. Bangladesh market share in
volume is much higher. The session informed that in 2016 Bangladesh
contributed 12% of global t-shirt market.
The country has one of the highest capacities in knit garment manufacturing in
4. the world. Through the last decade, knit factories in Bangladesh increased their
capacities in a great pace and today they have become very large volume
producers of knit garments.
Figure: (Knitwear export and its growth trend in Bangladesh)
From figure, it is clear that the demand of knitwear product is increasing. Even in
the last fiscal year 2016-17 when Bangladesh apparel export has seen lowest
growth in 15 years the knitwear export increased by 3.01 percent. Knitwear
export stood to 13757.3 million USD in FY 2016-17 while it was 13355.42 million
USD. For the FY 2017-18 Bangladesh has set an ambitious target to increase
knitwear export to 15.1 billion USD.
Bangladesh can cater more than 90 percent demand of its knit fabric required by
the knitwear manufacturing garment companies. And so, ‘knitting mills and
units’ are playing a vital role in keeping foreign currency inside Bangladesh.
Future Opportunities:
Opportunities for Job creation, Job transformation.
Increase Market Share by entering to the untapped product group.
Increase business by entering to the untapped market
Overtake extra business from China.
Competitive labor cost
Robust backward linkage
Excellent know how
State-of-the-art facilities
Loyalty to customers
5. GSP facility (other than the USA)
Cost Effective Strategy
New Product Development and Diversification Strategy
New market place making.
That was a discussion about future opportunities of Weaving & Knitting sectors
in Bangladesh.
