3. The elephant in the room:
Everyone wants to know, “why aren’t you
working.....?”
As CVB employees, we were shocked in
November to learn that the Davis County
Commissioners were closing the DACVB -
but looking back, the change has prepared
me for opportunities to come.
Over the next few screens I’ve outlined the
reasons why I think I have what it takes to
fill an important position with your
company.

4. Before joining the staff at the DACVB, I was CEO of
MeetingsAmerica - SLC’s leading destination
management company:
For the last 13 years, I have
worked with clients in
planning themes for their
events, creating support
material, hiring sub-
contractors, managing staff
and resources, and
delivering memorable
results.
5. Wherever one works, it’s the attention to detail and the
little things that make ordinary, EXTRA-ordinary!
Any project begins with
“conception” & eventually
moves to “completion”.
A CEO, administrator, sales
manager, or director is
responsible for the success
of the team. I’m used to
scoring “All 5’s”.
Couldn’t you use a guy like
that on your team?
6. Projects vary: whether it’s a corporate event or a new product
launch, detailed planning and strategy are important steps to
final success.
And I’ve had a lot of success!
7. According to some of the people with whom I’ve been
fortunate enough to work, exceeding the client’s
expectations is all in a day’s work.
8. I’m thoroughly familiar with the linear sales process... and
even those processes that follow a different route - whether
sales or product development, I keep the end in mind.
First there is the initial
contact
Followed by the proposal
Followed by the contract
Followed by the bill and
any “adds” or changes
Followed by a thank you
letter, and survey
9. Remaining cool under pressure, is a daily trait that
comes in handy at crunch time.
It goes without saying, that observing safe practices is of
utmost importance to any position.
I am a former WEC-trained volunteer ski patrolman, and
C.E.R.T member.
Sometimes emergencies are not health, injury or safety
related. Sometimes the coffee has run out, the AV equipment
hiccuped, or the speaker or an important associate didn’t
show up - or the client has decided to balk at the sale.
Sometimes handling workplace emergencies properly, is just
as important as health emergencies.
10. The note to the right is
actually a letter of
recommendation, but it
illustrates an incident where I
kept a level head while co-
producing a portion of the
CMN Telethon at
Disneyland.
“... just minutes before going live,
when the sponsor... change(d) the
order of the show... The Executive
Producer melted down and walked
off the set, so Ralph stepped in,
directed the talent... and literally
saved the day.”
11. My latest responsibilities were managing
the website & social media for the
DACVB, created their print ads and maps,
developed “window clings” to welcome
convention guests, produced the area
Dining Guide, the “Sponsor Pack” and
banners for the Antelope Island
Stampede, & many other projects.
I started my sales career as a manufacturer’s
rep for WD-40 and other products in the home
improvement industry, then moved to Utah
and co-produced 8 hours of the live (but
rehearsed) CMN Telethon for two years. I
called on architects and engineers at Monroc
Precast, and then became CEO of
MeetingsAmerica - a meeting and event
planning company in Salt Lake City - finally
ending up at the DACVB.
Now I’m ready to go to work for you!
12. While at the DACVB, I was given
many projects. One was the creation of
the new website, and mobi site - and
once created, I administrated their
content - including all text and the
images placed on each.
I also created aesthetic and engaging
social media on Facebook, two Twitter
accounts, Pinterest, Flikr, and
YouTube.
During the month of October 2013, I
was authorized to run a Facebook ad
campaign with a small budget of
$1000. The 3rd
party that we used
promised 1,000 new “likes” – but we
more than doubled that projection and
ended with nearly 2,000 new followers
in less than three weeks.
13. One of the advantages of
hiring a “seasoned”
employee, is the confidence
that he can think on his feet.
The College of Hard Knocks
has taught him that most
problems are easily resolved,
without involving a long
string of managers.
I have an honorary Masters
Degree in Problem Solving
- bestowed upon me from
that institution!
14. I’m eager, and ready to go to work.
I have a strong background in sales,
marketing, administration and
communication – and I’m anxious
to review my experience with you.
There are plenty of people who
believe that I’m the right person for
a position with your company,
including me. But if you don’t
believe me, you’re welcome to
contact them.
Please see the next page for a list of
referrers (and there are many more
if necessary).
Thank you for your consideration!
15.
16. And you’re always welcome to contact me!
I look forward to hearing from you!
(Yes, the photo of Wall Street at Arches National Park is my own, as is the photo at left in Little Wild Horse Canyon
- down by Goblin Valley State Park. I love exploring and finding new and unique places - and Utah has its share.)
