3. A plural noun is a noun which has been changed to show that there is more than
one.
The plural form of most nouns is created simply by adding the letter s.
more than one snake = snakes
more than one ski = skis
more than one Barrymore = Barrymores
Words that end in -ch, x, s or s-like sounds, however, will require an -es for
the plural:
more than one witch = witches
more than one box = boxes
more than one gas = gases
more than one bus = buses
more than one kiss = kisses
more than one Jones = Joneses
Nouns ending in y drop the y and add "ies."
Family becomes families
Story becomes stories
Baby becomes babies

5. Irregular plural forms
Some nouns form their plural not by adding the ending s/es, but by
changing the letters in the root of the word.
Ex.:man – men(мужчина – мужчины);woman – women(женщина –
женщины),child – children(ребенок – дети), ox – oxen(бык – быки,
рогатый скот), mouse – mice(мышь – мыши),louse – lice(вошь – вши),
foot – feet(ступня – ступни), tooth – teeth(зуб – зубы),
goose – geese(гусь – гуси).
Note: The noun "brother" (a member of a family) has a regular plural
form: brother – brothers. If the noun "brother" is used in the meaning "a
fellow member", it may have the archaic irregular plural form "brethren"
(fellow members).
6. The same singular and plural form
Some nouns have the same singular and plural.
-one sheep – two sheep(одна овца – две овцы)
-a deer – two deer(один олень – два оленя)
-a bison – five bison(бизон – пять бизонов)
-a moose – three moose(лось – три лося)
-a swine – several swine(свинья – несколько свиней),
-a fish – two fish(рыба – две рыбы)
-a salmon – several salmon(один лосось – несколько лососей)
-a dozen – two dozen(дюжина – две дюжины)
- an aircraft – two aircraft(воздушное судно – два воздушных судна)
-a means – means(средство – средства)
- a series – two series(серия – две серии)
If such nouns are used in the singular, they agree with a singular verb.
Examples: A deer is a graceful animal. The UN headquarters is in New.
If such nouns are used in the plural, they require a plural verb.
Examples: Three sheep were missing. Modern aircraft are powerful machines.
Tropical fish are small and brightly colored.
