CONSUMPTION?
Electricity consumption is nothing but
the energy consumed in the form of
electrical .
Your electricity bill will show the electricity
used in units. So, unit of electricity is units.
One unit of electricity is exactly equal to
1000 Watts of power used for 1 hour.
INTRODUCTION:-
1.MAINLY ELECTRICITY IS PRODUCED BY
TWO WAYS THEY ARE:-
- RENEWABLE ENERGY RESOURCES
EX : SOLAR ENERGY , WIND ENERGY, WATER
….
-NON-RENEWABLE ENERGY RESOURCES
EX : COAL , NUCLEAR , NATURAL GAS , OIL
…..
ELECTRICITY PRODUCTION BY RENEWABLE
RESOURCES
EG: SOLAR ENERGY , WIND ENERGY.
ELECTRICITY PRODUCTION BY NON-
RENEWABLE RESOURCE
EG : COAL.
MOST OF THE ELECTRICITY PRODUCED IN
INDIA IS BY NON-RENEWABLE RESOURCES
MAIN SUBSTATION IN LPU
TAKING INFORMATION ABOUT
ELECTRICITY CONSUMPTION IN LPU
Substation officer said:
Most of the electricity which we are consuming in LPU
is supplied by Punjab government.
We collected the readings of current which is
consumed in last few months in LPU.
Punjab government is supplying 4 Mega Watt every
month.
The electricity bill is approximately 2 crore per month.
ELECTRICITY CONSUMED IN UNITS
October:2015- September:2016
• October -17,37,240
• November -13,12,440
• December -12,02,640
• January -12,10,440
• February -13,65,160
• March -16,11,920
• April -21,97,040
• June -14,90,320
• July -15,54,000
• August -29,40,960
• September -30,82,480
Mostly electricity is consumed in hostels than in other
blocks of LPU.
In hostels, most of the electric energy is consumed by
geysers , air conditioners and coolers.
Where as in other blocks of LPU , most of the electricity
is consumed by laboratory equipments such as computers
and other electrical equipments which works on the
supply of electricity.
•
HOW MUCH ENERGY DOES
AN ELEVATOR USE?
ASSUMING YOU ARE
TRAVELING 10 FLOORS,
MAKING 2 ROUND TRIPS A
DAY YOU WOULD USE 2.9
KWH A MONTH
HOW MUCH ELECTRICITY
IS USED PER ROUND TRIP,
PER FLOOR ?
PER ROUND TRIP (10
FLOORS): 50 WH.
PER FLOOR (ONE
DIRECTION, 3 METERS): 2.5
WH.

AIR COOLER:
These air cooler
can consume upto
4 kw-6kw per
every 10hours.
LAPTOP:

Now the whole AC package consists
of 2 units. The indoor unit which is
called the evaporator and the
Outdoor Unit which called the
Compressor. The indoor unit is
around 100-200 watts or say 0.2 kW.
The Outdoor unit consumes the bulk
of power which is rated at around
1000 watts or 1kW. Hence the total
comes out to be around 1.2 kW. Now,
let us find out the number of units
consumed per hour by our AC.
So total no of units consumed per
hour would be
[(1kW x 0.5hrs) + (0.2kW x 1 hr)] =
0.7 kWh
HAIR DRYER:
Hairdryer 300 t600 W

.
Measures to reduce electricity consumption: 1.
Switch off all the lights and fans when they are not in
use.
.
2.In LPU mostly we are using CFL’s and fluorescent bulbs
which consume more electricity than LED’s.
Unplug unused
electronics and
appliances:
when you keep
an appliances
plugged in ,it’s
actually using up
electricity
Most of the chargers alone likely used a
slight bit of power; however, all combined it
was still less than one Watt—the impact of
leaving chargers . Having devices plugged
in and fully charged will result in a bit of
power use.
3.In LPU we are using
electric geysers which
consume more energy in
hostels.
Instead of those geysers
if we use solar geysers,
we can save electricity in
hostels.
An electric heater left on
high is about 1500 watts
and will use 1.5 units per
hour.
Choose air condition alternatives:
 Turn off the A.C when you are not in the room .close
your curtains to reduce the heat entering your room.
Try to utilise natural light as much as you can.
UNUSED LIGHTS IN THE BATHROOM
TRY TO SLEEP AS SOON AS POSSIBLE IN
THE NIGHT:
Img: Boys Hostels around 1:00 at night.
If you really want to make the difference then just
don’t conserve electricity but start generation
electricity in our college. May be not at on large
scale but even if u can in the initial phase
generation in small amount even that will make
considerable amount of difference.
Although we are having solar power plants which
are producing only little amount of electricity, if we
increase electricity production through solar panals
we can save non-renewable resources.
