To what extent does Morrison's take CSR is a priority? – [12] Marks.
Corporate social responsibility is essentially how a business interacts with its different stakeholders
and the responsibility it has towards them.
Morrison says a strong CSR policy toward staff and the environment. Staff gains considerable fringe
benefits as well as a good wage and thus shows Morrison's commitment to their staff and their
motivation. Also, Morrison's is keen on education; in evidence G Morrison says taken up an
innovative form of CSR to teach children about how food is grown which would also be helpful in
teaching them about their academic subjects. In this way, Morrison's is nurturing the next
generation to appreciate the environment. This goes hand-in-hand with Morrison's corporate
mission statement, taking good care of tomorrow.
However, Tesco and is DA provide better pay as well as similar fringe benefits. Furthermore they
both have formidable CSR policies with respect to the environment. This in turn makes Morrison CSR
look mediocre. Thus, Morrison's may simply have this CSR policy to stay in the retailing business.
And most importantly, Morrison's does not differentiate itself in terms of CSR but rather in providing
high-quality foodstuffs.
To conclude Morrison CSR is innovative as well as being an effective form of marketing but when it
comes to making CSR priority, it is easy to understand that the real intent is public-relations and
marketing as Morrison's links school gardens the vouchers in their shops. Thus, CSR is a marketing
and motivational tool that does not go to the full extent to being a form of ethical action.
