2. My media product follows some of the
typical conventions of real media products,
some of the typical conventions that i
researched before filming were; having an
intimidating villain, a vulnerable main
character, abandoned houses, dark
forests, high camera angles making the
main character looks small and low camera
angles making the villain look big, also high
pitched dramatic intense music or eerie
sound effects to create high tension and
many other conventions.
3. My media product has a vulnerable main character
which i created by the mise en scene of the product, i
made her character have a costume which shows bare
arms which made her more vulnerable also she i
isolated her to create this convention. The sound in my
media product is eerie and i wanted it to be the same
soundtrack all the way through so its like we are
following her as well as the feel of the music (the
character growing in fear and the music growing in
tension). Also i filmed the forest scenes where there
wasnt much around so that the sounds of the main
character were able to be heard so things like her
heavy breathing and the snapping of the sticks were
able to be picked up on by the audience.
4. Looking at the way my film was edited i
used fades and black screens as
transitions as i felt this made the film seem
scary and the fades allowed the audience
to not fully understand what happend to the
girl. This doesnt challenge the conventions
of real media products.
5. However my film does challenge the way
real media products are filmed. My product
instead of following the convention that
high camera angles are used on the
vulnerable character to make them look
small and that low camera angles are
made to make the villain look big i have
challenged this and made this the other
way round, when my main character Alex
is running i placed the camera on the floor
so we were looking up at her. I did this to
reveal that the character thinks she is
stronger and more powerful than the villain.
6. In conclusion with my media product i have
tried to follow the normal conventions that
would be expected from horror films, i didnt
want to challange the conventions too
much as i wanted to keep it traditional and i
only challeged the convention that the
camera angles and the way the film was
filmed. I kept locations as expected a dark
forest and an issolated train station.
