What Every LSD Tutor Should Know
Arriving at school Please enter the school building by the main door.  The first time you arrive to tutor, check in first at the main office. Various school buildings have different policies about visitors, so you will need to determine whether they want you to sign in and out at the office every week. Please come a little bit early the first week to ensure that you will have time to find the classroom.
Student Learning Sign-In There will be a sign-in sheet for Service Learning students in the tutoring classroom at every school. This is in addition to any sign-in sheet that you may need to use at the school office. If you do not sign in for your tutoring shift, you will not get credit for your that shift, because we have no way to verify your attendance. If you come late or leave early, please make a note of this on the sign-in sheet.

Any week that you are absent, you will not receive credit for service learninghours.
Your presence is vital for the success of these programs. Please ensure that you are a reliable tutor so you can help our kids be successful!

  • 9. Communication Please try to raise questions to LSD staff when you’re on site. Excessive emails to our program coordinator can result in a delayed response time and more frustration for you. Should you have important general questions, please contact Ms. Khoury: Ms. Khoury’s Email: Suzy.Khoury@lansingschools.net Ms. Khoury’s phone number: 517 – 755 - 4893 For details about your placement’s school phone number, room number, and building staff names, please refer to the LSD letter you were given as you entered this orientation.
  • 10. Scheduling and Evaluation Programming begins the week of January 31. Service Learning students will not tutor the week of MSU Spring Break: March 7-11 The last day of service is April 28. Students are expected to tutor the entire semester, regardless of the amount of hours they are required to complete for their class. All service learning students must give their evaluation documents to the LSD staff in their school at least one week before they are due Bring them in an envelope that has been stamped and addressed so that they can be mailed to MSU once they have been completed.
