Regional Scrum Gathering India 2017

While Agile stresses a lot on collaboration, utilizing a member's 100% capacity will lead to lack of collaboration. Everyone will focus on completing their tasks and not of the teams. Hence the need to shift from Traditional Project Management to Agile Project Management. As an Agile Coach and Consultant, Dyaneshwaran has seen traditional managers squeezing their teams in the pre-text of improving productivity. This leads to conflicts, blame games, lack of accountability, etc. Dyaneshwaran shared his experience and also provide my opinion on how this problem can be resolved.

This talk was presented at the Regional Scrum Gathering in India on the 6th and 7th of September in Bengalore. The SA Agile index report provided an opportunity to share experiences, observations and research into the state of Agile in South Africa and share these with our Indian colleagues and friends Over the last 7 years of being involved in Agile adoptions in South Africa, primarily, at large financial services organisations, I have observed trends that have made the adoption of Agile particularly challenging. These are as follows: Lack of business engagement – most Agile adoptions are driven by IT and ignore business Program execution – coordination of large programmes Team delivery – delivery teams are provided with the necessary constraints, conditions and purpose Lack of systems thinking – extending agility to all the supporting functions in the organisation Lack of Change management – typically mandated from executives to deliver the promise of Agile, however, leaders underestimate the impact on people The talk is aimed at individuals and organisations that are currently on or starting an Agile adoption by discussing each of these challenges identified and validated through the research as well as providing some options in addressing these challenges.

The same can be said for Quality Assurance (QA), and testing in development projects. Fully incorporating testing into your project from the start is essential to cross-team collaboration - after all, only by maintaining interaction between development and testing can you ensure a quality and secure end-product. So rather than leave testing to the end, we say get into bed with QA from the beginning - for a lasting relationship that keeps both you, and your client, smiling.

In the ideal perfect world there will be rainbows and unicorns and teams that all sit together. In reality, most teams have to deal with distribution in one form or another. For some: it’s team members spread across a building, for others it’s team members in other parts of the world in different time zones. Have you even been on a call where you can hear someone ordering coffee, or a dog barking? My favorite is being told someone is joining the call, after you've spent 5 minutes explaining something in detail. Mostly distributed meetings are boring, and not really worth the time and effort. As agile coaches we truly value face to face communication and visible boards and sticky-notes, we also value working from anywhere, having pets in the office and not having to travel. So what is possible here? We decided to fully immerse ourselves into the distributed world and see what happened. We were amazed - we managed to build trust, explore and discover great collaborative tools and we improved communication. We would like to share some of our discoveries and tips with you. Join us to explore how agile can work for distributed teams.
