* K. B. aveva chiamato questa sua composizione A Deal with God, titolo che però fu fortemente sconsigliato dai discografici della EMI perché, a loro dire, il
riferimento a Dio avrebbe condotto alla censura o a una scarsa diffusione del brano. Sebbene riluttante, K.B. accettò la proposta della EMI di intitolare la
composizione Running up the Hill, a patto che il titolo originario fosse perlomeno menzionato tra parentesi. In questa sede, come forma di rispetto per l’originaria
intenzione dell’autrice, nel riportare il testo del brano utilizzeremo il titolo A Deal with God.

9. “I think it's very interesting the whole concept of witch-hunting and the fear of women's power. In a way it's very
sexist behavior, and I feel that female intuition and instincts are very strong, and are still put down, really. And in
this song, this women is being persecuted by the witch-hunter and the whole jury, although she's committed no
crime, and they're trying to push her under the water to see if she'll sink or float.“

10. • ORDALIA DELL’ACQUA: l’acqua poteva essere impiegata per rivelare la malvagità della strega.
Alla "strega" venivano legate le mani ai piedi con una fune e poi e poi la si immergeva per un
certo tempo in un fiume o in lago: se galleggiava allora era certamente una "strega", perché
si credeva che l’acqua “rifiutasse” le creature demoniache, se andava a fondo era innocente.
Era facile che la "strega" morisse per il freddo o per un’immersione troppo lunga; se vecchia,
anche a causa della debolezza e fragilità del fisico.
• IMMERSIONE SEDUTA: si legava l’imputata a uno sgabello, con mani e piedi anch’essi legati,
e la si immergeva. Spesso ella tornava a galla e ciò era il segno della sua colpevolezza. Anche
in questo caso molte donne, soprattutto vecchie, morivano nel corso della procedura.
