Uttar Pradesh government exempts Electric Vehicles buyers in
state from tax, registration fees
• Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has decided to waive off road
tax and registration fee on the purchase of Electric Vehicles (EVs) for three
years from October 14, 2022, to promote electric vehicles.
• According to the Uttar Pradesh Electric Vehicle Manufacturing and Mobility
Policy 2022, 100 percent tax exemption will be given on electric vehicles
(EVs) sold and registered in Uttar Pradesh from October 14, 2022 to
October 13, 2025.
• These include all two-wheelers, three-wheelers and four-wheelers, Strong
Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV), Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), Battery
Electric Vehicle (BEV) and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV).
• As per the policy, a subsidy of 15 percent will also be given on the factory
price of electric vehicles to be purchased in the state.

What are Electric Vehicles?
• Electric Vehicles are vehicles that are partially or fully powered on electric
power.
• They have low running costs and are also very environmentally friendly as
they use little or no fossil fuels (petrol or diesel).
• These vehicles can solve the problems of increasing pollution, global
warming, depleting natural resources etc.

Madhya Pradesh govt launches Ladli Bahna scheme
• Madhya Pradesh Government on 5 March launched Ladli Bahna
scheme under which each woman will be given one thousand rupees
per month.
• Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan inaugurated the process of filling
application forms of Ladli Bahna Yojana in the presence of about one
lakh women at Bhopal's Jamboree Maidan.
• This scheme is being launched with the aim of increasing the economic
independence of women in the state, improving their health and
nutritional status and increasing their influence on family decisions.

• Under the scheme, Rs 1,000 per month will be deposited in the accounts
of the native women of the state in the age group of 23 to 60 years.
• Applications for the scheme will be filled from March 15 to April 30 and
the disbursement of funds will start from June 10.

Mumbai's famous "vada pav" ranked 13th in the list of best
sandwiches in the world
• Mumbai's famous street food "vada pav" has been ranked number 13 on a
list of the top 50 best rated sandwiches in the world.
• The list is published by TasteAtlas, a Croatian-based food travel guide
website.
1. Turkey's tombik sandwich tops the list.
2. Second is Peru's Butifara Sandwich
3. Argentina's De Lomo Sandwich is third.

'Vada Pav'
• Vada pav street food is said to have originated from a street vendor named
Ashok Vaidya, who operated near Dadar railway station in the 1960s and 1970s.

Mauganj became the 53rd district of Madhya Pradesh
• Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced on
March 4 to make Tehsil Mauganj of Rewa district the 53rd district of the
state.
• Mauganj district, bordering Uttar Pradesh, will have four tehsils - Mauganj,
Hanumana, Naigarhi and Devtalab with a population of more than six
lakhs.
• Apart from this, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone of projects
worth more than Rs 738 crore, many of which are in Mauganj.

• According to the Indian Forest Status Report-2021, Madhya Pradesh has
the maximum forest cover in the country in terms of area.

Karnataka won the Santosh Trophy after 54 years by defeating
Meghalaya
• Karnataka won the Santosh Trophy for the first time in 54 years after
sealing a commanding 3-2 win over Meghalaya in the final at the King
Fahd International Stadium in the Saudi Arabia capital, Riyadh on 5
March.
• This is the first trophy for Karnataka, having previously won four times as
the princely state of Mysore after a gap of 54 years (after 1968–69).
• Meghalaya's team reached the finals of this competition for the first time.

National Youth Parliament Festival
• The 4th edition of the National Youth Parliament Festival (NYPF) began
on 2 March 2023 at the Central Hall of Parliament, New Delhi.
• The fourth edition of the National Youth Parliament Festival, 2023 was
launched with the theme "Ideas for a Better Tomorrow: India for the
World".
• Its objective is to strengthen democracy and enable the student
community to understand the working of Parliament.
• The event saw the participation of 87 state level winners competing for
the top positions, wherein 29 finalists were presented before the National
Jury for final selection.

National Youth Parliament Festival (NYPF)
• The 1st edition was organized in 2019 with the theme “Be the Voice of New
India and Find solutions and Contribute to Policy”.
The National Youth Parliament Festival is organized at three levels-
• District Youth Parliament (DYP) - Preliminary round of screening is
conducted for selection of youth to participate in DYP by Jury.
• State Youth Parliament (SYP) - Youth selected by jury from District Youth
Parliament participate in SYP at State level.
• National Youth Parliament (NYP) - Youth selected by the jury from the State
Youth Parliament participate at the National level in NYP at New Delhi.

RBI imposes Rs 3.06 Crore penalty on Amazon Pay (India)
• Reserve Bank of India has imposed a penalty of Rs 3.06 crore on Amazon
Pay (India) Private Limited for non-compliance of certain directions
related to Prepaid Payment Instruments and Know Your Customer.
• The penalty has been imposed in exercise of powers vested in RBI under
section 30 of the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007.
• It was found that Amazon Pay (India) was not complying with the
directions issued by RBI on KYC requirements.

First-ever Women's Premier League begin in Navi Mumbai
• First match between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Giants was played at DY
Patil Stadium Navi Mumbai 4 March.
• The Women's Premier League (WPL 2023) with five teams begins on 4
March 2023 in Navi Mumbai.
• After years of waiting and planning, the Board of Control for Cricket in
India (BCCI) has launched a T20 franchise-based cricket league for women
on the lines of the popular Indian Premier League.
• India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur has been named as the MI skipper while
opener Smriti Mandhana will captain the RCB women's team.

• Australia's successful skipper Meg Lanning will captain Delhi Capitals, while Beth
Mooney has been named as the skipper of Gujarat Giants.
• Australian wicket keeper and batsman Alyssa Healy is leading the UP Warriors in
WPL 2023.
• The tournament final will be played at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai, on the
26 March.

Hockey India appoints South African Craig Fulton as new Chief
Coach of Indian men's hockey team
• Hockey India has appointed Craig Fulton of South Africa as the new head
coach of the Indian men's hockey team.
• Craig Fulton will replace Graham Reid who resigned in January 2023
following India's poor performance in the World Cup.
• He also won the FIH Coach of the Year in 2015 while with the Irish team.
• Fulton has nearly 25 years of coaching experience and has earned 195
caps for South Africa over a span of 10 years.

Hekani Jakhalu became the first female MLA of Nagaland
Assembly
• On March 2, Hakani Jakhalu of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive
Party (NDPP) became the first female MLA to be elected to the Nagaland
Legislative Assembly.
• Jakhu won the Dimapur III seat by defeating Lok Janshakti Party (Ram
Vilas) leader Azheto Jhimomi by 1,536 votes.

Health Ministry gets Porter Prize 2023 for Government's
strategy in managing COVID-19
• The Union Health Ministry has been awarded the Porter Prize 2023 for
successfully combating the COVID-19 crisis.
• The award recognized the Government of India's strategy, approach and
involvement of various stakeholders in the management of COVID-19,
especially ASHA workers in the industry for making PPE kits.
• The prize was announced at “The India Dialog”, organized by Institute for
Competitiveness (IFC) and US Asia Technology Management Center
(USATMC) at Stanford University on February 23-24.
• The theme of the two-day conference was “The Indian Economy 2023:
Innovation, Competitiveness and Social Progress”.

Porter Prize
• The award is named after American citizen Michael E Porter - economist,
researcher, author, consultant, speaker and teacher.
• He conceptualized economic theory and strategy to address challenging
problems in the areas of market competition and company strategy,
economic development, the environment and healthcare.

Vo Van Thuong elected as new President of Vietnam
• Vo Van Thuong, a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of
Vietnam (CPV), was elected as the country's new President by the
National Assembly of Vietnam.
• Thuong's election came after the sudden resignation of the previous
president, Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

Lt Gen Suchindra Kumar takes over as Vice Chief of Army Staff
• Lt. Gen. M.V. Suchindra Kumar took over as Vice Chief of the Army Staff on
1 March 2023.
• General Officer Suchindra Kumar, Lieutenant General B.S. Raju, who took
over the reins of the Jaipur-based Sapta Shakti Command on March 1,
2023.

International Yoga Festival 2023 on the banks of the Ganges in

• The International Yoga Festival 2023, organised by the Uttarakhand

of the Ganges in Rishikesh.

NADA and NCERT tie up to strengthen value based sports
education
• The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) and
the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) signed an MoU on 3 March
2023 to strengthen value-based sports education among school children
and teachers.
• The MoU will help in developing an accessible format on sports values
and ethics in e-content.
• The MoU will also help in creating awareness at the grass root level.

Jishanu Barua was appointed as the new chairperson of the
Central Electricity Regulatory Commission
• Jishanu Barua has been appointed as the new chairman of the Central
Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC).
• Union Minister for Power R K Singh administered the oath of office and
secrecy to Jishnu Barua in New Delhi on 3 March.
• Barua has been the Chief Secretary of Assam from October 2020 to
August 2022.
• It has been established by the Government of India under the provisions
of the Electricity Regulatory Commission Act, 1998.

National Safety Day
• National Safety Day is observed every year on 4th March with the
objective of ensuring safety of people in all aspects and promoting a safe
working environment.
• The theme of National Safety Day 2023 is "Our Aim - Zero Harm".
• The objective of this subject is to bring down the business loss to zero.
• The Government of India established the National Safety Council as a non-
profit and self-financing body on 4 March 1966 by the Ministry of Labor
and Employment.

World Wildlife Day
• World Wildlife Day is observed annually on 3 March.
• The theme for 2023 is "Partnerships for wildlife conservation".
• The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on 20 December 2013, in
its 68th session, observed 3 March as World Wildlife Day to protect
wildlife and raise awareness of endangered species of flora around the
world.
• World Wildlife Day was celebrated for the first time on 3 March 2014.

World Obesity Day
• World Obesity Day is celebrated every year on 4th March all over the
world.
• The theme of World Obesity Day in 2023 is "Changing Views: Let's Talk
About Obesity (Changing Attitudes: Let's Talk About Obesity)."
• According to a 2035 report by the World Obesity Federation (World
Obesity Federation) on World Obesity Day, the world's population may be
victims of earlier.
• World Obesity Day was launched in 2015 as an annual campaign that aims
to promote practical actions to achieve and maintain a healthy weight and
help address the global outlook crisis.
