Lesson 6: Basic operations
In this lesson you will learn the basic operations including:
● Cruise
● Snap
● Copy and paste
● Align
● Ruler
● Smart rotate
● Smart scale
Key vocabulary:
Cruise: Moving to place objects in the workspace.
Snap: Connecting one surface to another.
Random: Having no pattern or purpose.
Axis: A real or imaginary line about which a body, can rotate, a line about which the object
is the same on all sides.
Transform: To change the look of something.
Align: To arrange in a straight line.

● Cruise
1) While an object is in cruise mode, it will try to align or “snap” to the surface of other shapes
or objects. The torus was in cruise mode, now it is snapped to front of the sphere.
● Snap
1. Group while snapping OFF: Two objects will SNAP together but stay separate objects.

2. Group while snapping ON: Two objects will SNAP and group together as one.
● Copy and Paste
To copy and paste :
1. SELECT the wedge and on the keyboard PRESS “CTRL C” to copy the wedge.
2. PRESS “CTRL V” to paste the wedge.
Use the plain yellow handles to move the wedge to a new position.
● Align : To place objects in a straight line.
To align objects :

1. SELECT the object then SELECT transform menu then align tool from the submenu.
2. CLICK one of the horizontal lines (left – right line) when you agree to the new position of
the object.
3. CLICK over a vertical line (up – down line) and click when you agree on the new position
of the wedges.
● Ruler : A measuring tool which can be used two ways and is found in the top main menu,
transform sub menu.
1. The first way to use the ruler is to measure any elements on the same object, e.g. corner to
corner.
2. The second way is to use the ruler to measure from one element on one object to an element
on another object.

● Smart rotate: Smart rotate allows you to rotate several objects around another.
1. Go to the top main menu, and SELECT smart rotate from the transform submenu.
2. CLICK smart rotate.
3. Then CLICK the solids meshes button and SELECT the objects you want to rotate.
4. Then CLICK the face button and SELECT the face you want your selected items rotate
around.
● Smart Scale: The smart scale allows you to change a part of an object, not the whole.

1. GO to the top main menu and SELECT smart scale from the transform submenu.
2. The yellow smart scale handles will appear around the object. Each yellow handle lets you
scale that point and not the whole object.
