Wipro Limited is an Indian multinational corporation that provides information technology, consulting and business process services. It is headquartered in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India.
The company was incorporated on 29 December 1945 by Mohammed Hashim Premji as "Western India Vegetable Products Limited", later abbreviated to "Wipro".
It was initially set up as a manufacturer of vegetable and refined oils under the trade names of Kisan, Sunflower, and Camel.
In 1966, after the death of his father, Azim Premji took over Wipro as its chairman.
Azim Premji later diversified the company to bakery fats, ethnic ingredient based toiletries, hair care soaps, baby toiletries, lighting products, and hydraulic cylinders.
In the 1980s, the young entrepreneur recognized the importance of the emerging IT field.

under technological collaboration with an American company Sentinel computer
corporation.
• In February 2002, Wipro became the first software technology and services
company in India to be ISO 14001 certified.
• A study revealed that Wipro was the fastest wealth creator for 5 years (1997–
2002).

5. • In 2014, Wipro signed a 10-year $1.2 billion contract with ATCO, a Canadian
Energy and Utilities corporation based in Calgary, Alberta. This was the largest
deal in Wipro's history.
• In 2017, Wipro Limited won a five-year IT infrastructure and applications
managed services engagement with Grameenphone (GP).
• Wipro entered into the technology business in 1981 and has over 160,000
employees and clients across 54 countries.

15. CSR and Philanthropy
• APPI is part of a group of organisations and institutions founded by
Azim Premji in the social space to facilitate a just, equitable, humane
and sustainable society.
• It provides grants to organisations whose work has significant
potential to contribute to social change in a synergistic manner.
• Azim Premji Foundation is a not-for profit organisation that has been
working since 2000 with the elementary education system in rural
government schools.

improve educational quality across the country.
• Today, the Foundation with 1000+ employees has field institutes in
40+ districts across 6 states and 1 union territory.
• The initiative to support other not-for-profits by providing multi-year

crores - or 21 billion dollars - among the largest in the world.
• In 2018, Azim Premji increased his commitment to philanthropic initiatives by a
third by merging his investment arm PremjiInvest with Azim Premji Trust, the
holding entity for the endowment trusts that he set up as far back as 2001.
• Earlier this year, he commited 34% of his company’s shares, roughly worth 7.5
billion dollars or 52,750 crores, towards charitable causes.
• India's second richest man was the first Indian to sign the giving pledge started by
American billionaires, Bill Gates and Warren Buffet to commit at least 50% of
their fortune to philanthropic work. 19

and member of the board, would take over
as executive chairman from 31 July.
• Premji expressed confidence that Wipro will

been done before.

NonExecutive Director and Founder Chairman while dedicating most of his time
and energy to the philanthropic efforts of the Foundation.
• EPS for the year ended March 31, 2019 grew by 18.6% YoY, which was the best
in the last 5 years.
• The company improved their working capital substantially and their free cash
flows was robust at 106% of their net profits.
