Pareto Diagram
A Pareto diagram is a bar graph diagram. The lengths of the bars represent frequency or
cost and are arranged with longest bars on the left and the shortest to the right. In this
way the chart visually depicts which situations are more significant. It is also known as
the 80/20 rule.
Uses of a Pareto Chart
•When analyzing data about the frequency of problems or causes in a process.
•When there are many problems or causes and you want to focus on the most significant.
•When analyzing broad causes by looking at their specific components.
•When communicating with others about your data.
Example:- Shows how many customer complaints were received in each of five categories
Stratification of symptom of
bunking of classes
1. Oversleeping habits: Some students have the habit of sleeping for a long period of time
in the morning, and hence are unable to attend the lectures. Students often sleeps for
long hours which they often do intentionally, and bunk lectures.
2. Boring lectures: The most common problem why the students bunk their lectures is
because often they find the lectures to be boring. For them it is a waste of time to
attend such lectures.
3. Peer Pressure and going to canteens : Friends and bad company can make a sincere
student to bunk the lectures, and sit in the canteens with their friends. Often students
bunk their lectures and go to clubs, restaurants, etc.
4. Attending couching: Not only the students had to attend their lectures, but also their
coaching classes, and so most of the time they prefer to attend the coaching classes and
bunk their lectures
5. Meeting their partners: At the teenager and adolescence stage teenagers miss their
lectures to spend time with their partners.
6. Focusing more on their hobbies : The students are often interested in
perusing their hobbies rather than attending their classes and so for giving
time to their hobbies, the students bunk their lectures.
7. Disliking towards the subject : When a student has a strong disliking
towards the subject, the student try to elude from such lectures and so bunk the
lectures.
8. Watching of movies ,serials late night : Often when the students lives in the
hostel, they have a habit of watching movies and serials late night . As a result
this becomes one of the reasons why students bunk the lectures .
9. Preparing for competitive exam : Many at times due to the preparations
for the competitive exams the students bunk lectures.
10.Incomplete work : At times, the works given by the lecturer remains
incomplete , due to which the student bunks the lecture to avoid any
punishment.
11. Disliking towards teacher : If the student finds the teacher boring or
dislike the teachers, he /she starts bunking the lectures.

Identification of symptoms
of Problem
The symptoms of bunking lectures can be many but some
main are:-
BORING LECTURES
PEER PREASSURE
DISLIKING TOWARDS SUBJECT
Problem Definitions based on
3 above PROBLEMS
1. Boring Lectures: The most common problem why the students bunk their lectures
is because often they find the lectures to be boring and uninteresting. In most of
the government colleges, the students as well as the teachers are least interested in
attending the lectures and teaching the students respectively.
2. Peer Pressure and going to canteens: Friends and bad company can make a sincere
student to bunk the lectures ,and sit in the canteens with their friends. Often
students bunk their lectures and go to clubs, restaurants, etc. Students mainly
bunk classes in order to spend time with friends in canteens for fun purpose.
Bunking a class often encourage the students to go out for movies or to the nearest
restaurants, cafe etc.
3. Disliking Towards Subject: It depends on the teacher that how he/she makes the
class interactive and interesting. Even if the subject is not interesting, the teachers
can make it interesting by asking questions ,telling new interesting facts and
attending and focusing on each and every student. The teacher can work upon
his/her language problem if any.
Lesson learned
1. When there is a problem of bunking of lecture, it
arises from both the student as well as from the
lecturers side.
2. Proper communication, constant interaction can
only help to remove such problems.
3. There has to be a mutual understanding between the
students and the teachers.
4. Even if the student has any other area of interest,
he/she must also give time to his / her lectures.
