• A small country in Europe.
• Population 1 crore.
• Population is half of Haryana.
• Neighbouring countries are France,
Netherland, Germany, Luxemburg.
• Ethnic composition is complex.

3. Ethnic composition in Belgium
• 59% in Flemish region and speak Dutch.
• 40% in Wallonia region and speak French.
• 1% in Belgium and speak German.
In capital,
• 80% speak French.
• 20% speak Dutch.

4. Accommodation in Belgium
• Dutch and French speaking minister shall be
equal in central government.
• Many powers of central government was
given state government.
• State government is not subordinate to central
government.
• Brussels has a separate government.
• Apart from central and state government there
is communitygovernment.

5. Sri Lanka
• It is an island nation.
• It is just few kilometers fromTamil nadu.
• Population is 2 crore.
• Population is same as in Haryana.
• Ethnic composition is not complex.

• 74% speak Sinhala.
• 18% speak Tamil.
Out 18% who speak Tamil,
• 13% are called SriLankan Tamils
• 5% are called Indian Tamils.

7. Majoritarianism in Sri Lanka
1956 act,
• Sinhala as official language.
• They took a decision to protect and foster Buddhism.
• Sinhala applicants only will be given chance for university
positions.
Effects,
• The distrust between 2 communities made them have
conflict between them.
• This resulted in civil war.
• Civil war brought huge setback of culture and economy.

government.
• Power can be shared among governments
at different levels.
• Power may be
also shared among different social groups.
• Power sharing among political parties, pressure
groups and movements.
