- Make a difference to their school, their community and the world How does this fit in with the other age groups in Rotary?
- You can see it is the starting point for future Rotarians with two more stages in Interact and Rotaract before Rotary for real.
- To the school : It gives a stronger purpose to the existing citizenship programme in the current curriculum To the pupils : It builds self esteem and confidence at a time where children’s psychological development means they are becoming aware of themselves as individuals and different from their peers They also learn project team and leadership skills. To the community: Raised community awareness of completed projects and increased community responsibility and ownership
- It takes time to establish the links There are benefits to teachers as it is supporting them to achieve their Citizenship targets. However it is unlikely to involve all the children. All this work has its foundation in the RotaKids promise
- A presentation was done to a number of Head Teachers who had expressed interest. They all like the idea but only one for a variety of different reasons said “Yes . We’ll go for it” Tarves School in the catchment area of our Rotary club. 16 members, 50% of P6 & 7 classes School KO Sept 2009. Time spent by Rotarians from Meldrum with the group establishing the meaning of the Promise Club “chartered” March 2010. They took their promise with their hands on a wooden Rotary wheel Sponsoring Rotary Club: Oldmeldrum
- The main thing here that needs explanation is the last point; School policies can include: disclosure, H&S, parental permission for any projects out with school time, taking of photos,
- The following are ones we have done . There could be many more different ones
- Tarves RotaKids wear purple Hiar to show they care. They colected at their end of term church service for Polio Plus. They also explained as part of the service what Rotary was trying to achieve across the world -- the elimination of Polio
- RotaKids run Easter bonnet parade and competition at Oldmeldrum Rotary Easter Egg Hunt. Wrote letters for prize sponsorship and thankyous, made posters, made bonnets and helped on the day
- The litter pick up is able to happen because of a DSG to purchase the equipment. The impact of receiving letters was discussed with RotaKids. A letter from a local business was then handed to one of the RotaKid who has ADHD amongst other problems. The letter was advising him they were donating some prize money for the easter Bonnets. He could not believe some one had actually written to him.
