2. • Slope monitoring as we all know is a very useful
methodology in geotechnical engineering. It particularly is
used for assessment of safety of natural or manmade
slopes.
This
includes
road
cuts,
open
pit
mining, landfills, excavations, embankments, to name a
few.
3. Applications of Slope Monitoring
• Slope monitoring is used in regular monitoring of natural
slope failures and active landslides and other slope
failures remotely.
• It is also used for monitoring the periodic stability of high
walls of open pit mines.
• Slope monitoring plays a significant role in monitoring the
railway line cuttings and continuous survey of road side
cuttings that are subject to rockfalls.
5. • Objectives of Slope Monitoring - The main objective
behind slope monitoring is finding out the areas which are
endangered, to determine the slope stability to different
mechanisms which trigger, investigating all the potential
mechanisms of failure and designing slopes that are safe
and reliable. Even the remedial measures like stabilization
and barriers are designed.
6. • Slope Stability Radar – Slope monitoring is used to
monitor open-cut mines and its high walls. Also, the safety
and stability of open-cut mines has been a significant issue
around the world. There is this application that is popularly
used for slope stability monitoring is the slope stability
radar or SSR. It’s major role is to monitor the minutest of
precursory movements in the slope which lead to collapse
of the mine walls or rock failures.
