2. Hours-CCBA™ Certification
• Minimum 3,750 hours of BA work, aligned with the BABOK®
Guide, in the last 7years
• Minimum 900 hours in 2 of the 6 knowledge areas or
• 500 hours in 4 of the 6 knowledge areas
• Minimum 21 hours of BA professional development in the last 4
years
• Minimum high school diploma or equivalent
• Two professional references
• Signed Code of Conduct

• CCBA™ is a stepping stone to obtaining the CBAP®
designation

4. Work Experience
•Acceptable activities include:
• Hands-on business analysis activities (as per BABOK®)
• Coaching or mentoring of business analysts with respect to
business analysis activities
• Development of business analysis methodology and/or
best practices
• Development of business analysis training

• Supervisory management of business analysis activities (e.g.
resource management, status reporting, performance

4. Work Experience
•Professional Development – 21h (called PD hours)
•Must be personal professional development, not time developing
others (e.g. taking a course qualifies, teaching a course does not)
•For initial CBAP® or CCBA® certification, development must be a
course or seminar
•Course content must be based on the BABOK® Knowledge Areas
or Underlying Fundamentals (e.g. Leadership, communication
courses qualify, BUT testing courses, project management courses
or programming courses do not qualify)

5. References
• One current contact.
All references must have known the applicant for at least 6mths
A career manager is defined by IIBA as the person who is
responsible for providing and preparing the applicant’s annual
performance review.
Project managers cannot be references unless they are also the
applicant’s career manager. The reference form must clearly
indicate they fill both roles or the reference will not qualify.
Only two references will be assessed during the application
assessment process.

Initial fees
$125 USD application fee that is non-refundable
$325 USD exam fee for IIBA members*
$450 USD exam fee for non-members
Must write within 1 year of application approval
Rewrite fees
$250 USD for IIBA members*
$375 USD for non-members
Candidate must wait 3 months before rewriting the exam
*SA Membership Fees = $85 p.a.

8. The Exam
• 3.5 hours CBT
• 150 multiple choice questions with four
possible answers to select from.
• Some questions are based on
• "comprehension" (e.g., definition, recall, etc.)
• "situational analysis" (e.g., given a scenario,
which is the best course of action) where the
applicant must do a bit of analysis to arrive at
the answer.

• It is neither all of one type or the other but
covers a range of Bloom’s Taxonomy
• Results: CBT – Immediate

9. The Exam Centre
Submit application to IIBA®
Receive approval and admission letter (i.e.,
Notice to Schedule Examination)
• includes a User ID and Password to register online
for the test centre and test date of their choice
• Exam Centres are in Johannesburg and Cape
Town.

9. The Exam Centre
• Register online for the exam
• Receive, almost immediately, a confirmation email
from Prometric
• This email is the applicant’s admission letter and
includes the exam logistics
• Cancellation fee of $50 USD payable if less than
29 days to exam date
• Forfeit exam fee if cancel within 5 days, or no show
at Prometric CBT offices ($325/$450)

11. Re-Certification
The IIBA® certification is required to be
renewed every 3 years from date of initial
anniversary
Re-certification criteria are documented in
the Re-Certification Handbook available
from the IIBA® website
There is no re-certification for CCBA™ -
it expires 5 years from date.
