Will God play a role in the end of the world?
4. Scripture from the Old and New Testaments inform us that
the end of the world is wholly and entirely an act of God:
Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look at the earth
beneath; for the heavens vanish like smoke, the earth will
wear out like a garment, and they who dwell in it will die in
like manner; but my salvation will be forever, and my
righteousness will never be dismayed. Isaiah 51:6
Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass
away. Matthew 24:35
5. This contradicts our popular culture which suggests
that the end of the world is something possible for
humans. This certainly has become a more palpable
reality in light of Auschwitz, Hiroshima, and Nagasaki.
