4. INTRODUCTION
This s a small note discussing about one of compensators that
is mostly used in power system for improving quality of power
transmitted form source to load. here in this paper its
concentrated on the very basic of this compensator telling
answer for why? What? When? How? etc.. As an electrical
engineer in our day to day life we are dealing with real and
reactive power which can determine the quality of power
transmitted from source to load.
5. Literature Review
static synchronous compensator, is a regulating device used on ac
current electricity transmission networks. It is based on a power
electronics voltage source converter and can act as either a source or
sink of reactive AC power to an electricity network. If connected to a
source of power it can also provide active AC power It is a member of
the FACTS family of devices.
10. What Is GTO?
A gate turn-off thyristor (GTO) is a special type of thyristor, which
is a high-power semiconductor device. It was invented at General
Electric. GTOs, as opposed to normal thyristors are fully
controllable switches which can be turned on and off by their third
lead, the GATE lead.
12. Advantage
s
Continuous and dynamic Voltage Control
High efficiency
Very fast response time
Single phase control for unbalanced load
Reactive power compensation
