3. Disclaimers
Keep in mind that while faculty are generally welcome to award badges for just their
own courses, It is advisable to check with your school about any branding or
credentialing concerns.
Setting up badges under a department or program should be more carefully
considered (e.g., by creating a neutral issuer email, not one assigned to a particular
faculty member). Faculty sometimes change more often than programs.
Issuers can only be deleted by Badgr support at this time – be careful in creating
issuers. we keep confusing ourselves by saying “an instructor will issue the badge”,
but that is not quite right, the instructor awards the badge (or sets up the conditions
for it to be awarded) the badge issuer may be someone else entirely.
5. Have a Canvas Classroom Ready!
We will be using it very shortly!
A sandbox is handy, but
For practice, you can use any classroom with a quiz in a module!
In the future, create a badge-testing sandbox and a collection of dummy
students. And as for where to find “dummy students”, I already have a job!
6. Check to Verify if Badges is Included in
Your Canvas
You do not have to create a Badgr account if Badgr has been integrated with
Canvas at the account level at your school.
Check your Canvas Course Navigation for “Badges”,
Make sure that Badges is in the Top Menu

16. Badgr Pathways
Badgr Pathways allows users to stack Open Badges, like stepping stones, into
Learning Pathways providing educators and administrators the ability to easily track
group and individual progress across coursework, training series, and programs.
The Pathways system is flexible enough to allow for different branches and
segments, with required and optional elements that light up the path and direct
the learner what steps to take next.
Learning Pathways may contain and culminate in Completion Badges that are
automatically awarded when lower branches of the pathway are fulfilled.
