Proactive
• This is the ability to control one's environment, rather than
control other.
• It is more than taking initiative. Be Proactive
When you are PROACTIVE, you make a choice about how you
react to the things that happen in your life. You act like a water
bottle. You might get shaken up or mad, but you stay calm and
don’t explode.
The Habit of Personal Responsibility

How could you be more proactive?

7
Convincing Part of Habit
• We are responsible to make things happen
• We are responsible for our action
• We choose our behavior
• When things don’t go your way, you aren’t happy, BUT you stay calm.
• Concept of circle of concern and circle of influence

Criticism
• Time taking activity
• Lots and lots of practice required

Begin With the End in Mind
Begin With the End in Mind means to begin each day,
task, or project with a clear vision of your desired
direction and destination, and then continue by flexing
your proactive muscles to make things happen.
• This habit is based on the principle that all things are created twice.
• There is a mental (first) creation, and a physical (second) creation
• It state that we decide the direction of our life.
The Habit of Personal Vision

10
Convincing Part of Habit
• We write our own script
• All things are created twice and The
physical creation follows the mental, just
as a building follows a blueprint.
• One of the best ways to incorporate Habit
2 into your life is to develop a Mission
Statement.

Doubtful Part of Habit
11
• Difference between ideas and priorities can be threat

12
Put First Things First
Put First Things First is about time management. The Time
Matrix® provides a model for identifying and prioritizing
tasks based on urgency and importance. Truly effective
people ensure the most meaningful tasks related to their
personal mission statement are accounted for in weekly and
daily planning.

14
Convincing Part of Habit
• We must have the discipline to prioritize our day-to-day
actions based on what is most important, not what is most
urgent.
• We should plan according to the nature of thing.
• We should make weekly schedule

Think Win-Win
15
Many people think in terms of either/or: either
you’re nice or you’re tough. Win-win requires that
you be both. It is a balancing act between courage
and consideration.
The Habit of Mutual Benefit
Click to edit Master title style
1616
There are three vital character traits that are essential to this
paradigm:
•Integrity: sticking with your true feelings, values, and commitments.
•Maturity: expressing your ideas and feelings with courage and
consideration for the ideas and feelings of others.
•Abundance Mentality: believing there is plenty for everyone.
"To go for Win-Win, you not only have to be nice, you have to
be courageous."

17
1. Win-Win: Both people win. Agreements or solutions are mutually beneficial and satisfying to both
parties.
2. Win-Lose: "If I win, you lose." Win-Lose people are prone to use position, power, credentials, and
personality to get their way.
3. Lose-Win: "I lose, you win." Lose-Win people are quick to please and appease, and seek strength from
popularity or acceptance.
4. Lose-Lose: Both people lose. When two Win-Lose people get together — that is, when two,
determined, stubborn, ego-invested individuals interact — the result will be Lose-Lose.
5. Win: People with the Win mentality don't necessarily want someone else to lose — that's irrelevant.
What matters is that they get what they want.
6. Win-Win or No Deal: If you can't reach an agreement that is mutually beneficial, there is no deal.
Covey explains that there are six paradigms of human interaction:

Seek First to Understand, Then to Be
Understood
18
The Habit of Empathic Communication
Unknowingly, in conversation we filter what we hear through our
own life experiences and frame of reference. Before a person
finishes what they are saying, we’ve already formulated a response.
Click to edit Master title style
19
When we listen autobiographically — in other words, with our own perspective as our
frame of reference — we tend to respond in one of four ways:
1. Evaluate: Agree or disagree with what is said
2. Probe: Ask questions from our own frame of reference
3. Advise: Give counsel based on our own experience
4. Interpret: Try to figure out the person's motives and behavior based on our own
motives and behavior

Synergize
Synergize is the habit of creative cooperation and
can only be achieved by valuing the diverse
paradigms and opinions of others. In a synergistic
environment, true collaboration takes place because
the whole is always greater than the sum of its parts.
The Habit of Creative Cooperation

21
You know you are synergizing when you:
•Have a change of heart.
•Feel new energy and excitement.
•See things in a new way.
•Feel that the relationship has transformed.
•End up with an idea or a result that is better than what either of
you started with (3rd Alternative).
