ENVRI-FAIR has received funding from the EU to enhance the accessibility and interoperability of environmental research infrastructures (RIs). The project aims to develop common data standards and services across 13 RIs to make their data FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable). This will improve scientists' efficiency and productivity by establishing harmonized policies and sustainable data management practices at each step of the data lifecycle. Implementation will be led by the RIs themselves using external services when needed, while ensuring solutions can be transferred between providers.

5. ENVRI-FAIR - Overarching Goals
At the end of this project, participating RIs have built a data service which enhances
efficiency and productivity of scientists.
This requires:
• Well defined community policies and standards on all steps of data life cycles.
• Each participating RI will have sustainable, transparent and auditable data services,
for each step of the data life cycle, compliant to the FAIR principles.
• Each data service is chosen based on rational and transparent assessments of costs
and other aspects like, e.g., sustainability.

Implementation by the research infrastructures themselves

– but all solutions must be made as transferrable and provider-agnostic as possible
Common policies are agreed, and are the ”border control” of what is considered FAIR in
the EU environmental RI domain
