Mistake : Monica is successful, and I am such a loser.
AS : Whenever I get the thought that Monica is more successful than I am, I will become
aware that everyone’s qualities are different. I too have qualities through which I can
succeed, so I will remain positive.
Alternate AS : Whenever I get the thought that Monica is more successful than I am, I will
become aware that what one gets in one’s life is as per one’s destiny. So, I will continue to
strive to do my best.
Mistake : If I don't get a promotion after my next review, then it means I have no future

calmly continue applying for jobs.
Alternate AS : Whenever I get a thought that ‘I got laid off and I will never be able to get
another job’, I will realise that I have a good educational background and work experience
which is suited to many other job opportunities. So, I will positively assess my options and
apply for new jobs.
8. Mental filter
Negative thought patterns
We pick out a single negative detail and dwell on it exclusively so that our
vision of reality becomes darkened, like the drop of ink that discolours the
entire beaker of water.

Negative thought patterns
