About the conference Small and Medium size Enterprises (SMEs) and Entrepreneurs play pivotal roles in Nigeria’s fast growing economy. They create business and employment opportunities thereby improve people’s livelihoods. However, it is generally recognised that they face unique challenges, which affect their potential, hence diminish their ability to contribute effectively to the country’s sustainable development. Enterprises and the business community in Nigeria face overwhelming challenges including: lack of adequate talent and skills, inadequate capital and access to finance to foster growth, unsupportive business policies and regulatory environment, market competition, fast technological advancement, inadequate infrastructure and transport networks, lack of market information and industry standards. The aforementioned issues coupled with insecurity and poor governance constraint growth, industrial competitiveness and impede their contribution into the economy. Realizing the importance of small businesses and entrepreneurship as engine for growth in the Nigerian economy is paramount. Both the private and public sectors need to take steps towards addressing market conditions that hinder sustainable development of businesses and the economy. Improving access to capital and economic environment are important factors in increasing the development of SMEs and the private sector. If addressed effectively, will enhance industrial productivity, increase income levels, employment and thereby alleviate poverty. The conference is an important gathering in the sphere for government officials, businesses, entrepreneurs, investors, experts and institutions addressing the issues of financing, thought leadership, governance and entrepreneurship in creating jobs, SMEs development, fostering private sector development and economic growth.
