3. 1.1 SITE BACKGROUND
Taman Melawati, Kuala Lumpur
Taman Melawati is located in the north-eastern border of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. It is a
self-contained town that falls under the administration of the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council
(MPAJ) but the town’s postcode uses the 53100 code, which falls under the jurisdiction of Kuala
Lumpur area.
Taman Melawati is strategically located in the already matured area of Melawati and the nearby
Wangsa Maju vicinity that has easy accessibility to reach the Kuala Lumpur city centre via Jalan
Ampang, Ampang Hulu Klang Elevated Highway (AKLEH), GentingKlang-Pahang Highway,
Duta-UluKlang Expressway (DUKE), and Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2).
In addition, the Taman Melawati neighborhood also provides its residents with convenient
access to public amenities and township facilities such as nearby International School of Kuala
Lumpur (Elementary Campus), public schools like SK Taman Melawati 1, SekolahKebangsaan
Taman Melawati 2, SMK Taman Melawati and SRJK (Tamil) Taman Melawati.
Taman Desa Setapak, Kuala Lumpur
Desa Setapak is a residential development in Setapak which neighbors other residential area
like Wangsa Maju, Wangsa Metroview and Taman Bunga Raya. To its North is the Military
Police School (Pusat Latihan Polis Tentera).
In general, Desa Setapak is made up of two and three storey terrace houses. It was developed
back in the 80’s and age does reflect in the condition of some of the houses, while others had
undergone renovation to include modern designs.
Because of its closeness to Universiti Tuanku Abdul Rahman, a lot of the houses here are being
rented out to its students and many a times, these students subsequently continued to stay on
the rented houses after they had graduated and started working.
Nearby shopping centers include Jusco Alpha Jungle, Carrefour, Giant and Wangsa Walk
Shopping Mall. Desa Setapak is easily accessible via Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway and Middle
Road II which makes travelling to Kuala Lumpur city centre and Petaling Jaya.
