Stress is any uncomfortable or emotional experience
that causes emotional, physical, or psychological
discomfort.
Examples of types of stress in college teens’ lives
Financial Stress Academic Stress Mental Stress
Family Stress Physical Stress Social Stress

4. Methods
● If the research was able to be done fully
○ Interactive interviews will be conducted at the student center.
○ Researchers will ask questions to any participating college freshmen.
○ Around 12pm-1pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, 11/12, 11/13, 11/14*
○ Researchers would also send out google forms with research questions via freshman class group
chats and facebook group page.*
○ The targeted population for our study is male and female college freshmen.
**Research was only able to be conducted via google form because of limited time

6. Research
● Published online in Depression and Anxiety, study by Harvard Medical School found that mounting expectations, an evolving
sense of self-identity, and the typical shock of leaving home for a new place are making college students more vulnerable to
mental health risks.
● Study displayed that these students go through high levels of perceived stress and psychological distress and low levels of
self-esteem, optimism and self-efficacy.
● Research shows common stressors include: maintaining academic success, new levels of independence, social obligations,
managing financial burden and dealing with roommate conflicts.
● Combating stress can be through healthy diet, regular exercise, social interactions with friends/family also balanced amount of
leisure time.
