21. Development Insights: Transform
Our Vision
At Safe, we work to
ensure users have an
enjoyable experience.
To us, experience is all
about usability,
flexibility, and speed.
What We Delivered
In FME 2021.0, we made
many UI enhancements
and dramatically
improved engine speed.
Value to You
We’ve been tuning the
inner workings of FME to
make transformers
easier to configure,
perform faster than ever,
and process streaming
data in real-time.
22. Data-Aware Transformer Dialogues
No more struggling to remember
the exact values in your source
data!
Test and TestFilter conditionals
are now out of Tech Preview, and
this new capability is now available
for the popular AttributeManager
transformer.
23. Parameter Dialog Builder
Provides workspace and custom
transformer authors with a rich,
drag and drop GUI experience
for configuring user parameter
dialogs
Enables rich dialogs for
FME Server Apps to run:
● In the browser
● In FME Data Express
24. PROJ7
FME 2021.0 delivers support for the
latest version of PROJ, which allows
remote access to grids.
25. H3
FME now can compute,
manipulate, and visualize spatial
data indexed by the Uber H3
Worldwide Geospatial Hexagonal
Indexing framework.

26. FME Server
Streams
Easily switch from batch to stream
processing with the new interface in
FME Server called Streams.
With streams users can build
workflows that process real time
streaming data.
Stay tuned for an
upcoming Streams

30. Development Insights: Automate
Our Vision
At Safe, we work to
ensure you have the
tools to tackle datasets
of any size.
What We Delivered
In FME 2021.0, we
started the foundation
for autoscaling.
We have also added
features to build
complex automation
workflows.
Value to You
This increased control for
automating data
integration workflows,
enables you to solve new
challenges.
31. 2020 Challenge: Scaling Up FME
How much CPU and memory
resources do my
workspaces require?
Should I use dynamic
engines,and how should I
assign jobs/queues to
them?
32. 2021 Solution: Job Information
Laying the groundwork for autoscaling so organizations can optimize engine
deployment.
In FME 2021.0, users have access to:
● Job Execution Metrics
● Queue Control
● Queued Time for Jobs
33. Job Execution Metrics
Admins can use job execution metrics to identify when engines are most or least
busy to help them use engines most efficiently.
Metrics that will be made available include:
● Job processing time (total elapsed, user, system)
● Memory usage (start, end, peak)
● CPU time (user + system)
● CPU percent (CPU time / total elapsed)
34. Queue Control
This is a way for FME Server admins to manage the load on FME Server Engines. Admins can now
determine how jobs and engines are assigned to queues thru new rule based queue assignment
capabilities.

35. Manual Trigger
Run an automation with the click of a
button.
Great for automations that are run
on-demand by the user.
Also useful when building complex
workflows.
36. Guaranteed Delivery
Ensures that an external action or workspace will
be retried until successful.
You configure the attempts, both handling and
tracking failures in multiple internal and external
systems as you see fit.
This is key when communicating with external
systems that may be periodically unavailable.
37. Generic Directory
Like Active Directory this authentication
capability enables administrators to use
existing corporate security infrastructure.
41. The Why of Dynamic Engines
● Enable new solutions to be built and deployed
● Support leading edge deployments such as Kubernetes,
scalable cloud, and serverless
● Supports FME Server Apps, Automations, and Streams
where loads can be unpredictable or variable
Dynamic Engines enable organizations to use
the FME platform to solve new challenges
42. The What of Dynamic Engines
● Same capability as standard engines
● Users only pay for the CPU time used, not when the
engines are idle
● Users can scale engines up and down as needed - there is
no per engine cost
● A fundamental building block of the autoscaling
foundation technology.
