3. WELCOME.
Theodore Roosevelt’s quote, reproduced on the
preceding page, is my all-time favourite. Widely
regarded as one of the greatest triumphs of rhetoric
in history, “The Man in the Arena” is synonymous
with the greatest of human achievements. It has
inspired many to greatness, not the least of which
was Francois Pienaar, who in 1995 was given a
copy of the speech by Nelson Mandela before their
victorious World Cup grand final against the heavily
favoured All Blacks.
As business owners, we are all familiar with
Roosevelt’s description of the entrepreneurial
struggle. The metaphorical dust, sweat and blood of
our daily battles cling to our minds like those which
literally coat the body of a warrior or pioneer. Our
errors and shortcomings - and we all have them -

“great devotions” through to their triumphant end.

carefully managing cash flow.
Today Sam provides financial and business advice to
some of Australia’s leading up-and-coming brands.
In his spare time he enjoys reading, writing and
