TOPIC :- CLASSIFICATION OF INSECTICIDE
( 4th sem )
3. What is Insecticide ???..
Insecticides are substances used to kill
insects , including ovicides and
larvicides used against insect eggs and
larvae, respectively.
5. Classification of Insecticide
Classify on the basis of Chemical Composition
1.
Inorganic Insecticide
Arsenic
Fluorine
Sulphur
Zinc
Calcium arsenate
Lead arsenate
Sodium fluoride
Lime sulphur
Zinc phosphide
7. 2. Classify on the basis of mode of entry
Contact Poisons
Contact poisons are those
chemicals which injure the
target organism by physical
contact or skin absorption
through the cuticle.
DDT
Malathion
8. Stomach Poison
The Insecticides applied on the leaves
and other parts of plants when
ingested act on the digestive system of
the insect and bring about the kill of
the insect.
Calcium arsenate & Lead arsenate
9. Fumigants
A fumigant is a chemical substance
which is volatile at ordinary
temperature and sufficiently toxic
to the insects.
Aluminium phosphide and Carbon disulphide
10. Systemic Insecticide
Chemicals that are capable of
moving through the vascular systems
of plants irrespective of site of
application and poisoning insects
that feed on the plants.
Imidachloprid, Malathion,Acephate
11. 3. Classify on the basis of mode of action
Physical poison
Bring about the kill of insects by exerting a
physical effect,which cause death by
asphyxiation. Ex.-Heavy oils, tar oils.
12. Protoplasmic poison
A toxicant responsible for the destruction of
cellular protoplasm of midgut.
Ex. - Arsenical compounds
Respiratory poison
Chemicals which blocks cellular respiration .
Ex. - HCN & CO
13. Nerve poison
Chemicals inhibits the impulse condition.
Ex. - Malathion
Chitin inhibition
These classes of chemicals inhibits the chitin
synthesis in pests.
Novaluron , Lufenuron
14. 4. Classify on the basis of toxicity
Based on toxicity, it is classified into four types:
Extremely toxic – Colour: red, symbol: skull and
poison, oral LD50: 1-50
Moderately toxic – Colour: blue, symbol: danger,
oral LD50: 501 – 5000
Highly toxic – Colour: yellow, symbol: poison, oral
LD50: 51 – 500
Less toxic – Colour: green, symbol: caution, oral
LD50: >5000
Aluminium phosphide
Acephate
Quinalphos
Deligate
15. 5. Classify on the basis of stage specificity
Ovicides
A substance that kills eggs, specially the eggs of
insects ,mites, nematodes.
Larvicides
A larvicide is an insecticide that is specially
targeted against thelarval life stage ofan insects.
Imidachloprid, Fipronil
Temephos , Oils
16. Pupicides
A pupicide is an insecticide that is specially
targeted the pupa of an insects.
Temephos
Adulticides
A pesticides designed to kill adult insects .
Malathion ,Chlorpyriphos
17. 6. Classify on the basis of formulation
