3. As always, we hope everyone has a great time this weekend. Our policies
are simple and basic, so have fun and enjoy the show!
1) You must have an admission wristband or badge on at all time while
at Florida Supercon. Anyone found without a badge or wristband will be
ejected from the convention.
2) Do not cut off your wristband. If you cut off your wristband, it will be-
come invalid and void. You will not be allowed into the convention with a
wristband that has been cut off or altered.
3) Things that are illegal outside of the convention are illegal here. Obey
all local, state and federal laws.
4) Do not fight, Real or Play. If you fight, you go home.
5) Keep all pathways, and doorways clear. Do not create a fire hazard.
6) Treat everyone with respect.
7) NO HARASSMENT OF ANY TYPE IS ACCEPTABLE OR AL-
LOWED! Do not harass any other attendees or guests. The words “No”,
“Stop”, and “Go Away” are not suggestions. We will NOT tolerate abusive,
insulting, intimidating, or bothersome behavior, nor will we tolerate any-
one acting in an unsafe or illegal manner. We will NOT tolerate physical
assault, battery, deliberate intimidation, stalking, or unwelcome physical
attentions. If people tell you “no” or to leave them alone, your business
with them is done. Leave them alone. If you harass anyone, you will be
removed from the premises. If someone is bothering you, please locate
a staff member (a person wearing an Florida Supercon shirt, with a Staff
or Security badge). These individuals will investigate and have the right
to REMOVE any attendees badge and eject them without refund for not
respecting these simple rules. Any harassment that violates the law will
lead to the involvement of law enforcement authorities.
ZERO TOLERANCE FOR WEAPONS. You may not carry or possess
any item considered a weapon, openly or concealed, at any time at or
around the convention space, including the surrounding parking lots.
As well, no firearms, antique firearms, or any forms of ammunition are
allowed. Even items that may be legal for you to own or carry are not wel-
come and are to be left at home. Props may be used for costumes, howev-
er, a “prop” is something that you carry around as part of your costume
in your hands or on your person that fall under certain terms, rules and
exceptions outlined below. We use the term “prop weapon” to describe
any prop that is viewed as related to combat or violence regardless of how
you may be acting.
Go to http://floridasupercon.com/category/about/
weapons-policy/ for our full policy.
Prop weapons are homemade or commercially rendered costume prop
weapons that support the overall look of a costume or character, including
futuristic prop weapons made to look like phasers, ray guns, light sabers,
etc... Removing or tampering with the peace bonding is a violation of
the Weapons Policy and will result in immediate expulsion from Florida
Supercon. Any approved prop weapon may be revoked at any time at the
discretion of Florida Supercon staff or security, for reasons including, but
not limited to, the item being utilized or brandished in an inappropriate
fashion or if complaints are received regarding its improper display.
Prop weapons are to be displayed only as costume pieces and are not
allowed to be swung, jabbed, brandished, and utilized in a threatening
manner, thrust, or actively used on the convention grounds or in the sur-
rounding parking lots. Doing so can injure others, create unsafe situations
and possibly injure others. You may not pose with a Prop Weapon in a
brandishing manner except in photo booths where no other people are
nearby.
All prop weapons must be registered and peace bonded before entering
the convention. There will be several security stations / tables set up to
facilitate registration and peace bonding. Your prop will be marked with
an indicator that you are permitted to carry your prop or weapon. EVERY
prop will be handled on a case-by-case basis. You may be asked to take
further measures to make the prop safe before it will be given approval.
Be prepared for this contingency. Those who have their props and weap-
ons approved at Weapons Check MUST keep them under their physical
control at all times. We WILL be checking to make sure that the owner
and the item are together. If you loan your prop to someone else, or you
fail to register your prop/weapon with security, you may be removed from
the convention.
Cardboard, paper mache, resin, fiberglass, wood and plastic weapons are
preferred. We ask that ALL PROPS be constructed of light and flexible
materials, and as little wood and metal as possible. As stated before, any
“prop” may be considered a “weapon” in a certain situation, at the discre-
tion of the staff. Props weapons that are constructed of the
preferred materials will certainly receive less hassle at Weapons Check
and throughout the weekend by security and staff.
EXEMPTIONS: During costume competitions and photo opportunities,
CERTAIN policies will be given more leeway regarding costumes, props,
and prop weapons. While posing at photo booths (not in the hallways
or aisles) for a picture, you may temporarily brandish your prop for the
pose. As well, you may pose with your prop during costume competi-
tions on stage. This does not apply to weapons and props that have not
been approved at Weapons Check. Safety, Public Exposure, Questionable
Material, Signs/Banners, and any other Weapon/Prop policies must be
adhered to even during photo ops.
PURCHASED PROPS AND WEAPONS: If you purchase a prop or prop
weapon from the Vendors Room that does not comply with the Florida
Supercon Prop Weapons policy, you must either leave it boxed and taped
or take it to your room or vehicle, If it does meet the above Weapon and
Props policy, when exiting the Vendors Room please go directly to Weap-
ons Check to get it approved and peace bonded.
PLEASE NOTE that if you violate any of the above rules your prop weap-
on WILL be confiscated or you WILL be removed from the convention.
THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS! If you are asked by a member of Florida
Supercon security or staff, you are required to comply with their requests
or risk removal from the convention.
COSTUME & MASK POLICIES
1) All costumes at Florida Supercon must be PG during regular exhibition
room hours. After hours, please keep it PG-13. We are a family friendly
show. Use common sense. Anything that is illegal outside of the conven-
tion is illegal inside the convention. Florida Supercon reserves the right to
deem a costume as unacceptable and request the wearer make modifica-
tions as necessary, change out of the costume entirely into more appropri-
ate clothing, or require you to leave the convention.
2) Masks are allowed, however security and staff may ask you to remove
your mask at any time, for any reason for identification purposes.
3) QUESTIONABLE MATERIAL: Some costumes from anime, comic
books, sci-fi, video games, and other sources may contain questionable
material. You may wear a costume that is an accurate representation of
an existing character in fandom, but shock costumes, or costumes which
have the sole purpose of offending and disrespecting other individuals,
cultures, or religions in any way, will not be tolerated. We ask that you be
respectful of other attendees.
4) UNIFORM COSTUMES: Costumes that may be confused with LO-
CAL LAW ENFORCEMENT OR OTHER EMERGENCY RESPONSE
PERSONNEL UNIFORMS are not permitted. Florida Supercon has
the absolute right and sole discretion to determine whether a uniform
costume is permitted or too close to a real world uniform and to ask an
attendee who is wearing a costume that is too close to a real world uni-
form to adjust it or remove it.
SIGN & BANNER POLICY
All signs and banners must follow all of the rules of both costumes and
props, and are also subject to the general rating of the convention (PG-
13) and all other convention policies. Signs and banners may not contain
solicitation (“Will_ for _.”, or any variation). We have a strict NO
SOLICITATION POLICY! Signs and banners must also contain zero
profanity and offensive material. You may carry a sign as part of your
costume, so long as the sign is clearly relevant to the character you are
portraying. Regardless of whether the sign is acceptable or not, no sign
or banner may be affixed to any surface in or around the Miami Beach
Convention Center.
Florida Supercon reserves the right to amend or change these rules at
anytime for any reason to provide for the safety, security and general well
being of attendees and the general public.
