 437 nuclear reactor contributing to 11% of the world electricity
 300 new nuclear reactor are proposed around the globe.
 Nuclear waste will be severe problem in future.
 Growth prospect for Nuclear Energy in Asia Sub-continent.
 The total cumulative amount of spent fuel that will be generated by
2020 is estimated at 445 000 MTHM, of which about 324 000still
be in storage rather than recycled.
Nuclear Waste Management
 To plan, manage and dispose the radioactive wastes (solid, Liquid
and gases wastes).
 Reprocessing of the spent fuel: Purex process.
 Temporary Storage: Spent fuel pools (SFP) are storage pools for
spent fuel from nuclear reactors.
 Other means of waste managements like ADS , Rock melting,
Outer space etc.
