About Milk Bar
Milk Bar is an American-style
bakery founded in 2008 in
NYC’s East Village by Chef
Christina Tosi. They make
mind-blowing treats using
familiar flavors and
ingredients in unexpected
ways (like potato chips in a
cookie) and rewrite the rules
on nostalgic treats (think the
best made-from-scratch
Birthday Cake you’ve ever
tasted). Milk Bar’s mission is
inspiring a movement to
spread joy.
About the Students
Summer Youth Employment
Program (SYEP) provides
students in Washington
Heights, NY with a six-week
career learning experience
where they get hands on
opportunities to develop
professional skills and
competencies.
In addition, students who
attend The Young Women’s
Leadership School and BELA
Charter School in Brooklyn,
City Knoll Middle School and
New Design High School in
NYC, and Summit Public
Schools in the Bay Area, CA
signed up to participate
because of their interest in
being mentored by Milk Bar
volunteers.

4. Business Case Challenge
Through SuitUp, volunteers from Milk Bar and students from SYEP Washington Heights and
other schools in the NYC and Bay Area California regions participated in a SuitUp business
competition in which they created a new treat and associated wrapper for Milk Bar.
Volunteers coached students in various departments before helping them pitch to judges
for a cash prize.
