2007 NORTHERN ILLINOIS WOMEN’S SOCCER
A “world-class” experience.
As a member of the U.S. National Women’s
World Cup team, head coach Marci Miller
Jobson brings international experience to the
Huskies.
 Prior to the 2006 season, the Huskies got
up-close and personal by watching the U.S.
National Team train in Chicago. Afterwards,
NIU players met and took pictures with their
soccer heroes before holding their own
training session on the site (pictured above).
A program on the rise.
In just the second season under Marci Miller
Jobson, the Huskies claimed a pair of shutout
victories to reach the MAC Tournament
Championship Game for the first time in
nearly a decade.
 NIU posted a four-game winning streak late
in the 2006 season and notched its highest
victory total since 1998.
 The Huskies defeated three intrastate foes
to capture the 2007 Illinois Cup championship
(pictured right).
 NIU earned individual recognition on the
MAC’s All-Freshman and All-Academic teams
in 2006.

MARCI
MILLER JOBSON
Head Coach
3rd Season
Southern Methodist, 1998
T H E H U S K I E C O A C H I N G S T A F F
Now in her third season at the helm of the Northern
Illinois women’s soccer program, head coach Marci Miller
Jobson has been balancing a unique opportunity to build a
championship-caliber program while continuing her playing
career on the world stage.
In just her second season at NIU, Jobson led the
Huskies to their first Mid-American Conference Tournament
appearance of the decade, a journey that culminated in
a pair of upset victories and a berth in the league’s title
match. The seventh-seeded Huskies pulled off a victory at
second-seeded Ohio in the MAC quarterfinal and knocked
off sixth-seeded Kent State in the semis to earn their first
trip to the MAC Tournament Championship since 1998.
The run by Jobson’s squad was even more amazing
when considering it was done with a young squad
that featured just one senior and was dominated by
underclassmen, including several freshmen in key roles.
While continuing to make steps toward bringing a MAC
title to DeKalb, Jobson is continuing her playing career at
the highest level of competition as a member of the United
States Women’s National Team. In July, Jobson was one
of the first 18 players named to the 2007 U.S. World Cup
team that will compete in China in September. For Jobson,
it was the pinnacle of her already illustrious playing career,
which includes previous competition in China for the U.S.
team in the 2006 Four Nation’s Cup.
Having a perspective as both a player and coaching
a team of her own has helped Jobson mentor her players
and has provided the Huskies with opportunities to meet
and interact with the U.S. team. In August 2006, Jobson
invited her squad to meet U.S. team members and train at
their site in Chicago.
When hired as the Huskies head coach prior to the
2005 season, Jobson’s passion for the game and her
deep Chicagoland roots made her the perfect fit for the
program.
Jobson’s coaching style is a direct reflection of her
playing style. A player with a reputation as gritty and hard
nosed, U.S. National teammate Shannon Boxx called
Jobson “One of the toughest players I’ve ever played
against.”
A native of nearby St. Charles, Jobson was a four-time
all-state honoree at St. Charles High School where she
helped the Saints claim Illinois High School Association
titles in 1992 and 1994 with a third-place finish in 1993. At
that time, Jobson began her national playing career with
various under 17, 18, 19 and 20 teams.
As a member of the U.S. Under-17 National Team,
Jobson was a National Soccer Coaches Association of
AmericaprepAll-AmericaandamemberofSoccerAmerica’s
Super 11 Region II recruits as a senior. Jobson earned a
selection to the Chicago Tribune’s 1991 All-Freshmen team,
was a four-time All-Upstate Eight Conference pick and
earned all-area, all academic and all-state honors while at
SCHS.
Not surprisingly, she became an inductee into the St.
Charles (East) High School Hall of Fame in December of
2005. Making the occasion even more memorable, she was
named a recipient of the Jodie Harrison Lifetime Achievement
Award.
Jobson earned All-Freshman honors from both Soccer
America and Soccer News in 1994 at the University of
Wisconsin, the first of two seasons with the Badgers where
she was a first team All-Big Ten performer. She was a
second team All-Central Region and Big Ten Player of the
Week selection during her initial collegiate campaign while
helping lead the Badgers to a 16-6 overall record along with
a share of the conference regular season title, the league’s
postseason tournament crown and a NCAA Tournament
berth.
In 1995, Jobson earned All-Midwest, All-Sophomore,
and Elite 11 Midfielder accolades from Soccer News and
was a first team All-West Region honoree as a key member
of UW’s NCAA Tournament team that earned second-place
spots during the Big Ten’s regular season and conference
tournament.
Jobson finished each of her two seasons in Madison as
the nation’s No. 2 point producer, with 16 points on five goals
and six assists as a freshman and 20 points on five goals
and a team-best 10 assists in 1995.
After transferring to Southern Methodist, Jobson added
two more first team NSCAA All-Central Region honors to her
credentials. In both seasons with the Mustangs, Jobson was
the Western Athletic Conference Mountain Division Player
of the Year while claiming first team All-WAC accolades.
Jobson helped SMU reach the second round of the NCAA
Tournament while posting a 17-5-1 record in 1997, her final
season on the Dallas campus.
Jobson was a midfield starter in all 44 games for
the Mustangs and totaled 51 points on 21 goals and nine
assists during her two seasons at SMU. Overall during her
collegiate career, Jobson scored 87 points with 31 goals and
25 assists, paving the way for her to play professionally both
domestically and internationally.
A member of the gold-medal winning North Squad in the
1995 U.S. Olympic Festival, Jobson earned U.S. Olympic
Festival All-Tournament acclaim prior to beginning an
impressive four-year run as captain of the Chicago Cobras,
a member of the semi-pro W-League. In addition to claiming
a league scoring title, Jobson’s team won the 2000 league
championship. Jobson then moved overseas and spent one
season playing for Turbine Potsdam, one of the top teams
in the German Women’s Bundesliga, and competing against
some of the top players in the world.
With the formation of the WUSA league, Jobson returned
stateside to continue her pro career. The Atlanta Beat
selected Jobson in the fourth round of the initial WUSA draft,
where she faced stiff competition from players such as Abby
Wambach, whom she would later room with during her U.S.
national training days.
After four seasons with the WUSA, Jobson and many of
the league’s top players returned to W-League competition.

Jobson played one year for the Charlotte Eagles before
joining the Atlanta Silverbacks, a move that enabled her to
begin her coaching career. In Atlanta, Jobson served as one
of the top four staff coaches for the Atlanta United Soccer
Association, a role that included being the primary coach for
Atlanta United’s U-15, U-16 and U-17 programs.
Jobson has learned from and worked with the best
coaches in the U.S. After having benefited from their tutelage
as a player, Jobson has coached alongside two of the game’s
best in Greg Ryan and Brett Hall. Ryan, now the boss of
the U.S. Women’s National Team, added Jobson to his
staff at SMU. After having helped Hall with Chicago Socker
club programs, Miller enlisted the U.S. Women’s National
Team assistant as a volunteer aide for NIU during the 2006
campaign.
Soccer and family are part of Jobson’s own coaching staff
at NIU. Associate head coach and husband, Paul Jobson,
serves as the Huskies coach while the head coach trains and
competes for the U.S. National Team, enabling consistent
leadership within the program.
A 1996 graduate of SMU with a Bachelor of Arts degree
in Sociology, Jobson’s parents, Barbara and Walter, still
reside in St. Charles while her three brothers - Mark, Mike and
Marty - and four sisters - Monica, Mary, Mindy (who played
for University of Central Florida) and Maggie (who played
for George Washington University) - are spread around the
country.

PAUL
JOBSON
Associate Head Coach
3rd Season
Presbyterian (S.C.), 1999
Paul Jobson is much more than an assistant coach
to those who know the Northern Illinois women’s soccer
program. Among his duties are serving as the program’s
day-to-day administrator, planning and structuring practices
and organizing summer camps. In addition, he serves as
the team’s head coach when wife Marci Miller Jobson is
away training or competing for the U.S. National Team.
Prior to the 2007 season, Jobson was promoted to
associate head coach after leading the Huskies for 13
games during the 2006 season while Marci donned the
Red, White and Blue.
The work of the Jobsons at NIU is just part of their
special partnership. Beyond being husband and wife, Paul
and Marci have worked together with the Atlanta Beat of the
WUSA and with various youth soccer programs throughout
the state of Georgia.
More than just her No. 1 fan, Jobson is also the first
person to step in when Miller’s U.S. Women’s National
Team career takes her away from the Huskies.
That teamwork and Jobson’s extensive and varied
background in soccer was why Miller’s first step as the new
NIU boss was to hire him as her assistant.
“He’s produced results while coaching young women at
many levels. I just don’t believe I could find anyone with his
skills and the same passion for the game,” Miller Jobson
insisted.
The Atlanta, Ga. native was a three-year letterman at
Presbyterian College in South Carolina and was a member
of the squad which made the school’s first NCAA Division
II championship appearance. The Blue Hose compiled a
17-3-1 ledger that included the South Atlantic Conference
regular season and postseason tourney championships.
Jobson helped Presbyterian to a 15-4-3 mark and
regular season and conference tournament titles during
the 1996 campaign. The following season, he was part of
a team that notched 11 victories before opting to begin his
coaching career as a senior.
During his senior season at PC, Jobson served as
a student assistant coach while finishing his bachelor’s
degree in accountancy in 1999. Upon graduation, Jobson
moved into a role as assistant men’s soccer coach and
assistant sports information director at Presbyterian until
he left to work for his family’s business a year later.
In 2002, Jobson resumed his work in soccer when
he took a position with the Atlanta Beat of the WUSA
(women’s professional soccer league). In his role with the
team, Jobson was able to work in many different facets
of the soccer world, including promotion, youth soccer
development and game day operations. Jobson’s duties
with the Beat ranged from serving as an account executive
to being program director for youth player development,
co-producer of the Atlanta Beat Road Show, and manager
of the ajcjobs.com kickback zone. There he also met his
future bride, Marci Miller, who was playing for the team.
Throughout his soccer experiences, Jobson turned
sports administration duties into his specialty, routinely taking
on the tasks of fund-raising, budgets and camps.
Originally from Conyers, Ga. and a graduate of Salem
High School, Jobson has also served as the Soccer Director
and Program Supervisor for the Snellville (Ga.) Parks and
Recreation Department as well as the Athletic Coordinator
for Recreation and Select Soccer for the Alpharetta (Ga.)
Recreation and Parks Department.
In 2005, Jobson served as the junior varsity soccer coach
at Milton High School in Alpharetta, where he guided one of
the best JV programs in the state of Georgia.
Immediately prior to coming to Northern Illinois, Jobson
served as the Executive Director of the Atlanta Youth Soccer
Association. In 2005, Jobson earned his USSF National `B’
license.

2nd Season

CHUCK
CODD
Assistant Coach
1st Season
North Carolina State, 1990
Now in her second season on Marci Miller Jobson’s coaching
staff, Merit (Elzey) Stloukal returns to work with goalkeepers.
Last season, Stloukal mentored Lindsey Curnock, who
recorded seven shutouts for the second-highest season total in
school history. Under Stloukal’s guidance, Curnock put together
a stretch of three consecutive shutout victories to help lead the
Huskies to a berth in the MAC Championship Game.
Stloukal is another successful player and coach who is a
long-time acquaintance of Jobson.
Teammates on the St. Charles High School powerhouse
teams from 1991-94, Stloukal was a Parade Magazine All-
America and Illinois all-everything goalie who went on to enjoy a
stellar four-year career in net for Indiana University.
Stloukal began her coaching career as a varsity volunteer
and goalkeeper trainer for St. Charles East High School from the
spring of 1999 to 2001. During the fall of 2002, she served as
co-coach of the St. Charles Strikers’ Under-13 Club squad, which
accumulated a number of tourney titles and runner-up finishes.
Her youth soccer resume includes working as the goalkeeper
and team trainer for the Tri-Cities Soccer Club at various levels
from fall of 2003 to the spring of 2004.
However, from spring 2002 through 2006, Stloukal was
the varsity assistant and goalie coach for the St. Charles North
High School program which claimed IHSA regional titles in four
consecutive campaigns with a second-place Class AA finish in
2004.
As a prep player, Stloukal was a key figure behind coach
Tim Dailey’s 1992 and 1994 state championship units, while the
1993 unit finished third. Including a 27-0-1 mark in 1994, Stloukal
posted a four-year record of 91-8-9 (.884) for the Saints. Her
maiden name (Elzey) can still be found throughout the IHSA
records section ranking No. 2 for most shutouts (24) in a single
season (1994) and No. 3 for most career whitewashes (66).
Stloukal’s four letter-winning campaigns at Indiana included
first team All-Big Ten honors in 1995 and second team accolades
in 1996, with All-Great Lakes Region standing in both of those
years. She left IU as the school’s all-time record holder for saves
(442) and victories (35), and ranks second in shutouts (14).
Stloukal had a career-high 6.5 shutouts in 1996 en route to guiding
the Hoosiers to their first-ever NCAA Tourney appearance. Her
seasonal shutouts rank third, ninth, and 10th.
After Indiana, Stloukal protected the nets for the Chicago
Cobras from 1996-2001 and was a member of the Cobras
unit which was the national runner-up in 1997 and the national
champion for 2000.
Stloukal earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from
Indiana in 1994. She is married to Byron Stloukal of St. Charles,
the couple has a son Mason, 6, and a daughter, Meleah, 3.
Chuck Codd is the newest member of the NIU coaching staff,
bringing experience that includes a professional playing career
and a previous assistant coaching role at the Division I level.
“We are excited to have Chuck on our staff as volunteer
assistant coach,” said head coach Marci Miller Jobson. “He
comes with great experience both as a player and coach, having
been an assistant at Northwestern and the director of coaching
for the Chicago Sockers girls’ program. Not only does he know
the talent in the Chicago area very well, but he is also great at
developing the talent he already is working with. Chuck has a
magnetic personality and his players love to play for him.”
Codd most recently served as the girls’ team director for the
Chicago Sockers club team based in Palatine. Prior to that role,
he was an assistant coach at Northwestern for four seasons,
working one year with the men’s program and the final three with
the women’s team.
As a professional soccer player, Codd won three national
championships with the Chicago Stingers/Sockers outdoor team
from 1997-2000. Prior to his outdoor stint, Codd spent seven
seasons playing for the Chicago Power, Cincinnati Silverbacks
and Buffalo Blizzard of the NPSL.
Codd’s experience includes local ties as coach for the Celtics
club in St. Charles for three years and one year at St. Charles
High School. In addition, he spent two years coaching with the
Tophat girls’ club in Atlanta.
A native of Torrance, Calif., Codd is a graduate of North
Carolina State University with a degree in history. While a prep at
South Torrance High, he played for the Fram Culver Club.
Codd is married to Charmaine Hooper, a member of the
Canadian National Team who is regarded as one of the top
women’s soccer players in the world. The couple has a daughter
named Charlie.

2007 NORTHERN ILLINOIS WOMEN’S SOCCER
Expectations are high for the 2007
Northern Illinois women’s soccer team
after reaching its first MAC Championship
Game in nearly a decade one year ago.
Last season’s Huskie squad achieved
its success with a youthful roster that
included just one senior starter. With
this year’s team returning 15 veteran
letterwinners while adding a strong
recruiting class, a repeat trip to the
league’s title match is a realistic goal.
The 2007 campaign is 10 years removed
from NIU’s first MAC Championship in
1997 and the Huskies have their eyes on
repeating that feat.
As head coach Marci Miller Jobson
enters her third season in DeKalb, she
is armed with her deepest and most
talented squad. Even with the returning
experience, the 2007 Huskie squad is
still young with only five seniors on the
roster.
“The expectation we have for this team
is that we continually get better and hit
the potential that we have,” said Jobson.
“We want to be spirited and passionate
about the game and give our best effort
each time out. We expect to be one of the
toughest teams in the league, one that
will battle until the end in every match.
Our goal is to develop consistency in our
program and set a standard of regularly
reaching the MAC Tournament year in
and year out.”
Leading the scoring punch for
the Huskies is senior forward Karen
Enockson, who accounted for one-
third of the team’s scoring a year ago.
Enockson’s nine goals in 2006 marked
the fifth-highest total in school history,
and with opposing teams sure to try to
keep her in check, attacking opportunities
for other forwards will open up.
2 0 0 7 O U T L O O K
A familiar face returns
to the NIU lineup this season
in senior Elaine Eliadis, who
sat out 2006 with an injury
after totaling 10 points
the previous season. Also
looking to provide scoring
for the Huskies will be 2006
Freshman All-MAC honoree
Lisa Maier, the team’s
second-leading scorer with
five goals and 13 points
last year. With junior Thea
Johnson, who produced
six points in 2006, NIU will
not be short on potential
scorers.
Depth will be prevalent
at the midfield and forward
positions with veteran juniors
Maddie Lehman and Erin
Fahey along with a trio of
sophomores in Kim Schmitt,
Sara McClard, and Jamie
Sitter. Newcomers Jestina
Orlando, a transfer from North Dakota
State, and high-scoring DeKalb High
School standout Becca Ford will push
for playing time at highly-competitive
positions.
“Offensively, we have Karen back as
our captain and leading scorer from a
year ago,” said Jobson. “She has been
working continually to get better and
improvedrastically.Lisareturnswithmore
experience as a forward after having an
impact as a freshman while still learning
the position. With Thea returning as well,
the chemistry between those three is
very good. Becca could have an impact
for us as a freshman, Elaine is back after
missing last season and Jestina could
see some time. Overall, we have very
good depth offensively.”
The Huskie defense will be anchored
by seniors in Katie Sturges and Michelle
Christian and sophomore Micaela
Damas. Sturges owns 49 career starts
since entering the team’s lineup as a
freshman in 2004 and is entrenched
as one of the most solid defenders in
the league. Christian, who started eight
games a year ago, and Damas, who
quickly became one of the Huskies’
most tenacious defensive players, lead a
group of young freshmen who are hungry
to contribute.
“Our defenders are very tough and
ferocious players,” said Jobson. “Katie
[Sturges] typifies that persona for us and
is the leader back there. Most of the time
she is the one who will try to shut down
the opponent’s best player. Micaela is a
tough, scrappy player who had a strong
freshman season, and Mo is an all-state
player who could make an impact in her
first season. I feel good about Jenna
Clausen’s ability to lead, both vocally and
by example, and Michelle adds veteran
leadership and depth.”
Lindsey Curnock returns in goal after
posting seven shutouts, the second-
highest total in school history and helping
lead the Huskies’ late-season success
with three consecutive whitewashings.
Curnock will be pushed by redshirt
freshman Audrey Holmer, who sat out
2006 while recovering from an injury, and
incoming freshman Meaghan Bennett,
one of Michigan’s top high school
netminders.
“We will have depth in goal this season
after having one goalkeeper last year,”
said Jobson. “It will be a very competitive
position with Lindsey returning as the
starter and Audrey and Meaghan pushing
each other to be better.”
SCHEDULE
After a pair of exhibition matches in
Florida, NIU opens the new season in
its own tournament, Aug. 31 against
IUPUI and Sept. 2 vs. Iowa. From there,
the Huskies’ non-conference slate is
highlighted by home matches against
perennial Horizon League contender
Wisconsin-Green Bay and a pair of road
matches against Chicago foes Loyola
and DePaul.
The MAC will be as wide open as ever.
In last season’s conference tournament
each of the lower-seeded teams emerged
victorious in the first round, proving the
parity that was demonstrated week in
and week out during league play.
NIU opens MAC play with a trip
to Bowling Green before its MAC
Tournament Championship rematch
against Toledo on Sept. 30. The Huskies
return home for a pair of games against
Kent State and Buffalo before embarking
on a tough four-match stretch that begins
at Ball State, the defending regular
season champion. NIU closes its home
schedule against a formidable Central
Michigan squad and a competitive
Eastern Michigan team ahead of
the regular season finale at Western
Michigan.
“It is hard to say that there is a favorite
to win the MAC,” said Jobson. “Every
team is so competitive and that is what
makes the conference so much fun. You
must show up every game because any
team can win at any time. Last season
we performed well against some of the
higher-finishing teams in the league and
struggled with teams toward the bottom.
There’s no clear cut choice as a team to
beat, but Ball State is a team to watch
and Central Michigan and Toledo will
field quality teams. As the tournament
showed last season, it is a wide-open
league.”
Karen Enockson (4) and Thea Johnson (7) return to
lead the Huskie attack.

2007 NORTHERN ILLINOIS WOMEN’S SOCCER
Northern Illinois University officially
debuted women’s soccer as a varsity
intercollegiate sport in the fall of 1993.
The decision to add women’s soccer
to the Huskie line-up was announced in
1992 by then Athletics Director Gerald
O’Dell. Among his first steps was
selecting a coach to literally create a
program, and that task was given to Frank
Horvat, whose girls programs at Rockford
Boylan High School were perennial state
contenders and whose boys squads
were regular state participants as well.
After a 7-10 debut season, Horvat’s
program improved to 10-10, and by his
third year, Northern Illinois had its initial
winning season at 11-6-2.
During the 11-win 1995 season
NIU also reached the semifinals of
the Midwestern Collegiate Conference
Tournament. As impressive as that
trip to the semis was, Northern Illinois
established a true home-field advantage
as evidenced by a 6-0-2 ledger on Huskie
Soccer Field. While 1996 would be NIU’s
last year in the MCC and an injury-
plagued team would manage only six
wins, the groundwork was laid for the
1997 and 1998 campaigns.
Northern Illinois’ 1997
debut in Mid-American
Conference season would
be a memorable one as
the team finished 12-8-
2 and won the league
championship. Best of all,
1998yieldedanencore. That
14-7-0 campaign featured
the Huskies sharing the title
with Ohio University, but
becoming the league’s first
back-to-back champion.
T h e H u s k i e s
inaugural Mid-American
Conference run actually
got off to a rocky
start when net-minder
Stefanie Maurer injured
her knee during
the season opener,
a 3-2 loss to the
University of Iowa.
Senior forward
Julie Bergstrom
volunteered to
try her hand(s) at
goal for NIU and
turned heads in the
net. At one point
during the season,
Bergstrom ran a
streak of more than
560:00 minutes of
scoreless action for
Northern Illinois.
W h i l e
Bergstrom and the
defense proved
outstanding, it was the Huskies’ powerful
offense that garnered attention and
fan praise. In the second game of the
season with a raw Bergstrom in net, NIU
managed 49 shots against Georgia State
during a 2-2 tie and followed with a 68-
shot effort during its MAC debut against
Kent State University. The Huskies’
11-0 victory was led by Anne Mucci’s
hat trick.
Northern Illinois would continue to
plow through the competition, defeating
DePaul 4-2, Toledo 2-0, and Bowling
Green State 6-0, to stretch its winning
streak to four. But the road to the title
was filled with bumps for NIU. The
Huskies dropped three straight before
rebounding from their skid with a five-
match win streak. During that string,
Northern Illinois outscored its foes 20-0
until regional power Marquette ended the
run with a 1-0 victory thanks to a goal with
only 2:02 left in regulation.
The loss sent the Huskies into a
three-game, scoreless tailspin, until
Horvat’s club posted a 3-1 road victory
over Illinois State University.
A 1-0 overtime road
setback at the University
of Wisconsin in the
regular-season finale
left the Huskies with
a sour taste. As the
top seed based on
the regular-season
standings, Northern
Illinois received a first-
round bye for the MAC
tournament.
The Huskies took
a 2-0 lead in their
semifinal versus
Ohio with goals
coming from Kim
Corbin, off a
Mucci assist, and
on an Allison Wade header. The Bobcats
cut the lead in half, but could not solve
the stifling Northern Illinois defense.
That win advanced the Huskies into the
title game and provided an opportunity
to avenge the year’s only conference
loss — a 2-1 defeat courtesy of Eastern
Michigan University.
During the battle for the inaugural
MAC trophy, Northern Illinois led 1-0
at the half after Debbie Huston found
the top corner of the net off of a long
kick. Wade came through again for the
Huskies, giving NIU a 2-0 lead and a little
insurance midway through the second
period. The Eagles responded quickly,
scoring just 95 seconds later to cut the
lead to one. Then with eight minutes left
EMU scored the equalizer and sent the
match into overtime.
Wade, who would be named
conference Player of the Year, took
control of the game in overtime. The
senior and the league’s leading goal
scorer netted her final career shot at the
98:24 mark to give the Huskies that first
MAC crown.
Wade was joined by Mucci and
Melissa Campbell as first team All-MAC
selections while Huston was honored
as a second-team pick. Wade was also
named to the National Soccer Coaches
Association third team All-Region unit
for her efforts during her senior season.
When the books closed on Allison Wade
she held the record for most goals in a
career with 31.
Despite Wade’s departure, the 1998
Huskies were eager to defend their
crown led by league standouts Mucci
and Huston. Mucci headed into her final
year already owning the mantle of career
point leader with 88.
After a come-from-behind season-
opening triumph over Illinois State, the
Huskies journeyed to sunny California.
However, the Golden State provided
a reception that was chillier
than any Midwest autumn
wind. The University of
California’s 8-0 thumping
was followed by an 8-1
loss to Stanford.
NIU’s once-potent
offense was still missing
in a follow-up 7-1 road loss
to Evansville.
The only good news from
those three defeats were
that none came against
MAC foes.
The Huskies returned
to form, beating Central
Michigan, Western
Michigan and Marshall
in three consecutive
games by a combined

  • 1. www.niuhuskies.com 1 2007 NORTHERN ILLINOIS WOMEN’S SOCCER A “world-class” experience. As a member of the U.S. National Women’s World Cup team, head coach Marci Miller Jobson brings international experience to the Huskies.  Prior to the 2006 season, the Huskies got up-close and personal by watching the U.S. National Team train in Chicago. Afterwards, NIU players met and took pictures with their soccer heroes before holding their own training session on the site (pictured above). A program on the rise. In just the second season under Marci Miller Jobson, the Huskies claimed a pair of shutout victories to reach the MAC Tournament Championship Game for the first time in nearly a decade.  NIU posted a four-game winning streak late in the 2006 season and notched its highest victory total since 1998.  The Huskies defeated three intrastate foes to capture the 2007 Illinois Cup championship (pictured right).  NIU earned individual recognition on the MAC’s All-Freshman and All-Academic teams in 2006.

  • 4. 4 2006 mac tournament finalist 2007 NORTHERN ILLINOIS WOMEN’S SOCCER MARCI MILLER JOBSON Head Coach 3rd Season Southern Methodist, 1998 T H E H U S K I E C O A C H I N G S T A F F Now in her third season at the helm of the Northern Illinois women’s soccer program, head coach Marci Miller Jobson has been balancing a unique opportunity to build a championship-caliber program while continuing her playing career on the world stage. In just her second season at NIU, Jobson led the Huskies to their first Mid-American Conference Tournament appearance of the decade, a journey that culminated in a pair of upset victories and a berth in the league’s title match. The seventh-seeded Huskies pulled off a victory at second-seeded Ohio in the MAC quarterfinal and knocked off sixth-seeded Kent State in the semis to earn their first trip to the MAC Tournament Championship since 1998. The run by Jobson’s squad was even more amazing when considering it was done with a young squad that featured just one senior and was dominated by underclassmen, including several freshmen in key roles. While continuing to make steps toward bringing a MAC title to DeKalb, Jobson is continuing her playing career at the highest level of competition as a member of the United States Women’s National Team. In July, Jobson was one of the first 18 players named to the 2007 U.S. World Cup team that will compete in China in September. For Jobson, it was the pinnacle of her already illustrious playing career, which includes previous competition in China for the U.S. team in the 2006 Four Nation’s Cup. Having a perspective as both a player and coaching a team of her own has helped Jobson mentor her players and has provided the Huskies with opportunities to meet and interact with the U.S. team. In August 2006, Jobson invited her squad to meet U.S. team members and train at their site in Chicago. When hired as the Huskies head coach prior to the 2005 season, Jobson’s passion for the game and her deep Chicagoland roots made her the perfect fit for the program. Jobson’s coaching style is a direct reflection of her playing style. A player with a reputation as gritty and hard nosed, U.S. National teammate Shannon Boxx called Jobson “One of the toughest players I’ve ever played against.” A native of nearby St. Charles, Jobson was a four-time all-state honoree at St. Charles High School where she helped the Saints claim Illinois High School Association titles in 1992 and 1994 with a third-place finish in 1993. At that time, Jobson began her national playing career with various under 17, 18, 19 and 20 teams. As a member of the U.S. Under-17 National Team, Jobson was a National Soccer Coaches Association of AmericaprepAll-AmericaandamemberofSoccerAmerica’s Super 11 Region II recruits as a senior. Jobson earned a selection to the Chicago Tribune’s 1991 All-Freshmen team, was a four-time All-Upstate Eight Conference pick and earned all-area, all academic and all-state honors while at SCHS. Not surprisingly, she became an inductee into the St. Charles (East) High School Hall of Fame in December of 2005. Making the occasion even more memorable, she was named a recipient of the Jodie Harrison Lifetime Achievement Award. Jobson earned All-Freshman honors from both Soccer America and Soccer News in 1994 at the University of Wisconsin, the first of two seasons with the Badgers where she was a first team All-Big Ten performer. She was a second team All-Central Region and Big Ten Player of the Week selection during her initial collegiate campaign while helping lead the Badgers to a 16-6 overall record along with a share of the conference regular season title, the league’s postseason tournament crown and a NCAA Tournament berth. In 1995, Jobson earned All-Midwest, All-Sophomore, and Elite 11 Midfielder accolades from Soccer News and was a first team All-West Region honoree as a key member of UW’s NCAA Tournament team that earned second-place spots during the Big Ten’s regular season and conference tournament. Jobson finished each of her two seasons in Madison as the nation’s No. 2 point producer, with 16 points on five goals and six assists as a freshman and 20 points on five goals and a team-best 10 assists in 1995. After transferring to Southern Methodist, Jobson added two more first team NSCAA All-Central Region honors to her credentials. In both seasons with the Mustangs, Jobson was the Western Athletic Conference Mountain Division Player of the Year while claiming first team All-WAC accolades. Jobson helped SMU reach the second round of the NCAA Tournament while posting a 17-5-1 record in 1997, her final season on the Dallas campus. Jobson was a midfield starter in all 44 games for the Mustangs and totaled 51 points on 21 goals and nine assists during her two seasons at SMU. Overall during her collegiate career, Jobson scored 87 points with 31 goals and 25 assists, paving the way for her to play professionally both domestically and internationally. A member of the gold-medal winning North Squad in the 1995 U.S. Olympic Festival, Jobson earned U.S. Olympic Festival All-Tournament acclaim prior to beginning an impressive four-year run as captain of the Chicago Cobras, a member of the semi-pro W-League. In addition to claiming a league scoring title, Jobson’s team won the 2000 league championship. Jobson then moved overseas and spent one season playing for Turbine Potsdam, one of the top teams in the German Women’s Bundesliga, and competing against some of the top players in the world. With the formation of the WUSA league, Jobson returned stateside to continue her pro career. The Atlanta Beat selected Jobson in the fourth round of the initial WUSA draft, where she faced stiff competition from players such as Abby Wambach, whom she would later room with during her U.S. national training days. After four seasons with the WUSA, Jobson and many of the league’s top players returned to W-League competition.

In Atlanta, Jobson served as one of the top four staff coaches for the Atlanta United Soccer Association, a role that included being the primary coach for Atlanta United’s U-15, U-16 and U-17 programs. Jobson has learned from and worked with the best coaches in the U.S. After having benefited from their tutelage as a player, Jobson has coached alongside two of the game’s best in Greg Ryan and Brett Hall. Ryan, now the boss of the U.S. Women’s National Team, added Jobson to his staff at SMU. • 6. 6 2006 mac tournament finalist 2007 NORTHERN ILLINOIS WOMEN’S SOCCER PAUL JOBSON Associate Head Coach 3rd Season Presbyterian (S.C.), 1999 Paul Jobson is much more than an assistant coach to those who know the Northern Illinois women’s soccer program. Among his duties are serving as the program’s day-to-day administrator, planning and structuring practices and organizing summer camps. In addition, he serves as the team’s head coach when wife Marci Miller Jobson is away training or competing for the U.S. National Team. Prior to the 2007 season, Jobson was promoted to associate head coach after leading the Huskies for 13 games during the 2006 season while Marci donned the Red, White and Blue. The work of the Jobsons at NIU is just part of their special partnership. Beyond being husband and wife, Paul and Marci have worked together with the Atlanta Beat of the WUSA and with various youth soccer programs throughout the state of Georgia. More than just her No. 1 fan, Jobson is also the first person to step in when Miller’s U.S. Women’s National Team career takes her away from the Huskies. That teamwork and Jobson’s extensive and varied background in soccer was why Miller’s first step as the new NIU boss was to hire him as her assistant. “He’s produced results while coaching young women at many levels. I just don’t believe I could find anyone with his skills and the same passion for the game,” Miller Jobson insisted. The Atlanta, Ga. native was a three-year letterman at Presbyterian College in South Carolina and was a member of the squad which made the school’s first NCAA Division II championship appearance. The Blue Hose compiled a 17-3-1 ledger that included the South Atlantic Conference regular season and postseason tourney championships. Jobson helped Presbyterian to a 15-4-3 mark and regular season and conference tournament titles during the 1996 campaign. The following season, he was part of a team that notched 11 victories before opting to begin his coaching career as a senior. During his senior season at PC, Jobson served as a student assistant coach while finishing his bachelor’s degree in accountancy in 1999. Upon graduation, Jobson moved into a role as assistant men’s soccer coach and assistant sports information director at Presbyterian until he left to work for his family’s business a year later. In 2002, Jobson resumed his work in soccer when he took a position with the Atlanta Beat of the WUSA (women’s professional soccer league). In his role with the team, Jobson was able to work in many different facets of the soccer world, including promotion, youth soccer development and game day operations. Jobson’s duties with the Beat ranged from serving as an account executive to being program director for youth player development, co-producer of the Atlanta Beat Road Show, and manager of the ajcjobs.com kickback zone. There he also met his future bride, Marci Miller, who was playing for the team. Throughout his soccer experiences, Jobson turned sports administration duties into his specialty, routinely taking on the tasks of fund-raising, budgets and camps. Originally from Conyers, Ga. and a graduate of Salem High School, Jobson has also served as the Soccer Director and Program Supervisor for the Snellville (Ga.) Parks and Recreation Department as well as the Athletic Coordinator for Recreation and Select Soccer for the Alpharetta (Ga.) Recreation and Parks Department. In 2005, Jobson served as the junior varsity soccer coach at Milton High School in Alpharetta, where he guided one of the best JV programs in the state of Georgia. Immediately prior to coming to Northern Illinois, Jobson served as the Executive Director of the Atlanta Youth Soccer Association. In 2005, Jobson earned his USSF National `B’ license. • 7. www.niuhuskies.com 7 2007 NORTHERN ILLINOIS WOMEN’S SOCCER MERIT STLOUKAL Assistant Coach 2nd Season Indiana, 1998 CHUCK CODD Assistant Coach 1st Season North Carolina State, 1990 Now in her second season on Marci Miller Jobson’s coaching staff, Merit (Elzey) Stloukal returns to work with goalkeepers. Last season, Stloukal mentored Lindsey Curnock, who recorded seven shutouts for the second-highest season total in school history. Under Stloukal’s guidance, Curnock put together a stretch of three consecutive shutout victories to help lead the Huskies to a berth in the MAC Championship Game. Stloukal is another successful player and coach who is a long-time acquaintance of Jobson. Teammates on the St. Charles High School powerhouse teams from 1991-94, Stloukal was a Parade Magazine All- America and Illinois all-everything goalie who went on to enjoy a stellar four-year career in net for Indiana University. Stloukal began her coaching career as a varsity volunteer and goalkeeper trainer for St. Charles East High School from the spring of 1999 to 2001. During the fall of 2002, she served as co-coach of the St. Charles Strikers’ Under-13 Club squad, which accumulated a number of tourney titles and runner-up finishes. Her youth soccer resume includes working as the goalkeeper and team trainer for the Tri-Cities Soccer Club at various levels from fall of 2003 to the spring of 2004. However, from spring 2002 through 2006, Stloukal was the varsity assistant and goalie coach for the St. Charles North High School program which claimed IHSA regional titles in four consecutive campaigns with a second-place Class AA finish in 2004. As a prep player, Stloukal was a key figure behind coach Tim Dailey’s 1992 and 1994 state championship units, while the 1993 unit finished third. Including a 27-0-1 mark in 1994, Stloukal posted a four-year record of 91-8-9 (.884) for the Saints. Her maiden name (Elzey) can still be found throughout the IHSA records section ranking No. 2 for most shutouts (24) in a single season (1994) and No. 3 for most career whitewashes (66). Stloukal’s four letter-winning campaigns at Indiana included first team All-Big Ten honors in 1995 and second team accolades in 1996, with All-Great Lakes Region standing in both of those years. She left IU as the school’s all-time record holder for saves (442) and victories (35), and ranks second in shutouts (14). Stloukal had a career-high 6.5 shutouts in 1996 en route to guiding the Hoosiers to their first-ever NCAA Tourney appearance. Her seasonal shutouts rank third, ninth, and 10th. After Indiana, Stloukal protected the nets for the Chicago Cobras from 1996-2001 and was a member of the Cobras unit which was the national runner-up in 1997 and the national champion for 2000. Stloukal earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Indiana in 1994. She is married to Byron Stloukal of St. Charles, the couple has a son Mason, 6, and a daughter, Meleah, 3. Chuck Codd is the newest member of the NIU coaching staff, bringing experience that includes a professional playing career and a previous assistant coaching role at the Division I level. “We are excited to have Chuck on our staff as volunteer assistant coach,” said head coach Marci Miller Jobson. “He comes with great experience both as a player and coach, having been an assistant at Northwestern and the director of coaching for the Chicago Sockers girls’ program. Not only does he know the talent in the Chicago area very well, but he is also great at developing the talent he already is working with. Chuck has a magnetic personality and his players love to play for him.” Codd most recently served as the girls’ team director for the Chicago Sockers club team based in Palatine. Prior to that role, he was an assistant coach at Northwestern for four seasons, working one year with the men’s program and the final three with the women’s team. As a professional soccer player, Codd won three national championships with the Chicago Stingers/Sockers outdoor team from 1997-2000. Prior to his outdoor stint, Codd spent seven seasons playing for the Chicago Power, Cincinnati Silverbacks and Buffalo Blizzard of the NPSL. Codd’s experience includes local ties as coach for the Celtics club in St. Charles for three years and one year at St. Charles High School. In addition, he spent two years coaching with the Tophat girls’ club in Atlanta. A native of Torrance, Calif., Codd is a graduate of North Carolina State University with a degree in history. While a prep at South Torrance High, he played for the Fram Culver Club. Codd is married to Charmaine Hooper, a member of the Canadian National Team who is regarded as one of the top women’s soccer players in the world. The couple has a daughter named Charlie. • 8. 8 2006 mac tournament finalist 2007 NORTHERN ILLINOIS WOMEN’S SOCCER Expectations are high for the 2007 Northern Illinois women’s soccer team after reaching its first MAC Championship Game in nearly a decade one year ago. Last season’s Huskie squad achieved its success with a youthful roster that included just one senior starter. With this year’s team returning 15 veteran letterwinners while adding a strong recruiting class, a repeat trip to the league’s title match is a realistic goal. The 2007 campaign is 10 years removed from NIU’s first MAC Championship in 1997 and the Huskies have their eyes on repeating that feat. As head coach Marci Miller Jobson enters her third season in DeKalb, she is armed with her deepest and most talented squad. Even with the returning experience, the 2007 Huskie squad is still young with only five seniors on the roster. “The expectation we have for this team is that we continually get better and hit the potential that we have,” said Jobson. “We want to be spirited and passionate about the game and give our best effort each time out. We expect to be one of the toughest teams in the league, one that will battle until the end in every match. Our goal is to develop consistency in our program and set a standard of regularly reaching the MAC Tournament year in and year out.” Leading the scoring punch for the Huskies is senior forward Karen Enockson, who accounted for one- third of the team’s scoring a year ago. Enockson’s nine goals in 2006 marked the fifth-highest total in school history, and with opposing teams sure to try to keep her in check, attacking opportunities for other forwards will open up. 2 0 0 7 O U T L O O K A familiar face returns to the NIU lineup this season in senior Elaine Eliadis, who sat out 2006 with an injury after totaling 10 points the previous season. Also looking to provide scoring for the Huskies will be 2006 Freshman All-MAC honoree Lisa Maier, the team’s second-leading scorer with five goals and 13 points last year. With junior Thea Johnson, who produced six points in 2006, NIU will not be short on potential scorers. Depth will be prevalent at the midfield and forward positions with veteran juniors Maddie Lehman and Erin Fahey along with a trio of sophomores in Kim Schmitt, Sara McClard, and Jamie Sitter. Newcomers Jestina Orlando, a transfer from North Dakota State, and high-scoring DeKalb High School standout Becca Ford will push for playing time at highly-competitive positions. “Offensively, we have Karen back as our captain and leading scorer from a year ago,” said Jobson. “She has been working continually to get better and improvedrastically.Lisareturnswithmore experience as a forward after having an impact as a freshman while still learning the position. With Thea returning as well, the chemistry between those three is very good. Becca could have an impact for us as a freshman, Elaine is back after missing last season and Jestina could see some time. Overall, we have very good depth offensively.” The Huskie defense will be anchored by seniors in Katie Sturges and Michelle Christian and sophomore Micaela Damas. Sturges owns 49 career starts since entering the team’s lineup as a freshman in 2004 and is entrenched as one of the most solid defenders in the league. Christian, who started eight games a year ago, and Damas, who quickly became one of the Huskies’ most tenacious defensive players, lead a group of young freshmen who are hungry to contribute. “Our defenders are very tough and ferocious players,” said Jobson. “Katie [Sturges] typifies that persona for us and is the leader back there. Most of the time she is the one who will try to shut down the opponent’s best player. Micaela is a tough, scrappy player who had a strong freshman season, and Mo is an all-state player who could make an impact in her first season. I feel good about Jenna Clausen’s ability to lead, both vocally and by example, and Michelle adds veteran leadership and depth.” Lindsey Curnock returns in goal after posting seven shutouts, the second- highest total in school history and helping lead the Huskies’ late-season success with three consecutive whitewashings. Curnock will be pushed by redshirt freshman Audrey Holmer, who sat out 2006 while recovering from an injury, and incoming freshman Meaghan Bennett, one of Michigan’s top high school netminders. “We will have depth in goal this season after having one goalkeeper last year,” said Jobson. “It will be a very competitive position with Lindsey returning as the starter and Audrey and Meaghan pushing each other to be better.” SCHEDULE After a pair of exhibition matches in Florida, NIU opens the new season in its own tournament, Aug. 31 against IUPUI and Sept. 2 vs. Iowa. From there, the Huskies’ non-conference slate is highlighted by home matches against perennial Horizon League contender Wisconsin-Green Bay and a pair of road matches against Chicago foes Loyola and DePaul. The MAC will be as wide open as ever. In last season’s conference tournament each of the lower-seeded teams emerged victorious in the first round, proving the parity that was demonstrated week in and week out during league play. NIU opens MAC play with a trip to Bowling Green before its MAC Tournament Championship rematch against Toledo on Sept. 30. The Huskies return home for a pair of games against Kent State and Buffalo before embarking on a tough four-match stretch that begins at Ball State, the defending regular season champion. NIU closes its home schedule against a formidable Central Michigan squad and a competitive Eastern Michigan team ahead of the regular season finale at Western Michigan. “It is hard to say that there is a favorite to win the MAC,” said Jobson. “Every team is so competitive and that is what makes the conference so much fun. You must show up every game because any team can win at any time. Last season we performed well against some of the higher-finishing teams in the league and struggled with teams toward the bottom. There’s no clear cut choice as a team to beat, but Ball State is a team to watch and Central Michigan and Toledo will field quality teams. As the tournament showed last season, it is a wide-open league.” Karen Enockson (4) and Thea Johnson (7) return to lead the Huskie attack.

  • 22. 22 2006 mac tournament finalist 2007 NORTHERN ILLINOIS WOMEN’S SOCCER Northern Illinois University officially debuted women’s soccer as a varsity intercollegiate sport in the fall of 1993. The decision to add women’s soccer to the Huskie line-up was announced in 1992 by then Athletics Director Gerald O’Dell. Among his first steps was selecting a coach to literally create a program, and that task was given to Frank Horvat, whose girls programs at Rockford Boylan High School were perennial state contenders and whose boys squads were regular state participants as well. After a 7-10 debut season, Horvat’s program improved to 10-10, and by his third year, Northern Illinois had its initial winning season at 11-6-2. During the 11-win 1995 season NIU also reached the semifinals of the Midwestern Collegiate Conference Tournament. As impressive as that trip to the semis was, Northern Illinois established a true home-field advantage as evidenced by a 6-0-2 ledger on Huskie Soccer Field. While 1996 would be NIU’s last year in the MCC and an injury- plagued team would manage only six wins, the groundwork was laid for the 1997 and 1998 campaigns. Northern Illinois’ 1997 debut in Mid-American Conference season would be a memorable one as the team finished 12-8- 2 and won the league championship. Best of all, 1998yieldedanencore. That 14-7-0 campaign featured the Huskies sharing the title with Ohio University, but becoming the league’s first back-to-back champion. T h e H u s k i e s inaugural Mid-American Conference run actually got off to a rocky start when net-minder Stefanie Maurer injured her knee during the season opener, a 3-2 loss to the University of Iowa. Senior forward Julie Bergstrom volunteered to try her hand(s) at goal for NIU and turned heads in the net. At one point during the season, Bergstrom ran a streak of more than 560:00 minutes of scoreless action for Northern Illinois. W h i l e Bergstrom and the defense proved outstanding, it was the Huskies’ powerful offense that garnered attention and fan praise. In the second game of the season with a raw Bergstrom in net, NIU managed 49 shots against Georgia State during a 2-2 tie and followed with a 68- shot effort during its MAC debut against Kent State University. The Huskies’ 11-0 victory was led by Anne Mucci’s hat trick. Northern Illinois would continue to plow through the competition, defeating DePaul 4-2, Toledo 2-0, and Bowling Green State 6-0, to stretch its winning streak to four. But the road to the title was filled with bumps for NIU. The Huskies dropped three straight before rebounding from their skid with a five- match win streak. During that string, Northern Illinois outscored its foes 20-0 until regional power Marquette ended the run with a 1-0 victory thanks to a goal with only 2:02 left in regulation. The loss sent the Huskies into a three-game, scoreless tailspin, until Horvat’s club posted a 3-1 road victory over Illinois State University. A 1-0 overtime road setback at the University of Wisconsin in the regular-season finale left the Huskies with a sour taste. As the top seed based on the regular-season standings, Northern Illinois received a first- round bye for the MAC tournament. The Huskies took a 2-0 lead in their semifinal versus Ohio with goals coming from Kim Corbin, off a Mucci assist, and on an Allison Wade header. The Bobcats cut the lead in half, but could not solve the stifling Northern Illinois defense. That win advanced the Huskies into the title game and provided an opportunity to avenge the year’s only conference loss — a 2-1 defeat courtesy of Eastern Michigan University. During the battle for the inaugural MAC trophy, Northern Illinois led 1-0 at the half after Debbie Huston found the top corner of the net off of a long kick. Wade came through again for the Huskies, giving NIU a 2-0 lead and a little insurance midway through the second period. The Eagles responded quickly, scoring just 95 seconds later to cut the lead to one. Then with eight minutes left EMU scored the equalizer and sent the match into overtime. Wade, who would be named conference Player of the Year, took control of the game in overtime. The senior and the league’s leading goal scorer netted her final career shot at the 98:24 mark to give the Huskies that first MAC crown. Wade was joined by Mucci and Melissa Campbell as first team All-MAC selections while Huston was honored as a second-team pick. Wade was also named to the National Soccer Coaches Association third team All-Region unit for her efforts during her senior season. When the books closed on Allison Wade she held the record for most goals in a career with 31. Despite Wade’s departure, the 1998 Huskies were eager to defend their crown led by league standouts Mucci and Huston. Mucci headed into her final year already owning the mantle of career point leader with 88. After a come-from-behind season- opening triumph over Illinois State, the Huskies journeyed to sunny California. However, the Golden State provided a reception that was chillier than any Midwest autumn wind. The University of California’s 8-0 thumping was followed by an 8-1 loss to Stanford. NIU’s once-potent offense was still missing in a follow-up 7-1 road loss to Evansville. The only good news from those three defeats were that none came against MAC foes. The Huskies returned to form, beating Central Michigan, Western Michigan and Marshall in three consecutive games by a combined H I S T O R Y The Huskies first women’s soccer team took the field in 1993.
