I have chosen the newspaper brief as I believe this is the task I will
be the most successful at. In preparation for the main product I
have begun researching local newspapers to help me generate
ideas for my coursework.
Next week I will begin analysing newspaper billboards
for the research aspect of my ancillary task 1 which will
allow me to grasp an idea of what this product should
look like.

This week I have searched for three different newspaper billboards
for my ancillary research, I have found them extremely difficult to
find on the internet and consequently only found two.
In preparation for next week I will find a final newspaper
billboard so I can begin analysing them which will help
me when designing my own billboard.

I now have three different billboards and have begun analysing
them on colour scheme, masthead, images and typography. This
has provided me with some ideas I will be able to translate onto
my own billboard.
Next week I will complete this analysis and then begin
my ancillary task one where I will be creating my own
billboard to advertise my newspaper.

I have now completed a detailed analysis of all three billboards and
have a clear idea of what mine needs to look if it were to be
successful. In preparation for this I have begun designing
mastheadsfor my newspaper in which I will use one for my
ancillary task.
For next week I am going to have picked a masthead I
think looks the most professional so I am prepared to
begin creating a billboard design for next week.

Out of the three masthead designs I created last week I have
chosen the most suitable one to feature on my newspaper. I have
started to design a billboard using this masthead, ensuring that the
colour scheme matches to make it successful.
Next week I am going to continue my ancillary task 1
and finish my first draft, before I complete it to ensure I
have completed this task to the best of my ability.

I have now completed a rough draft of my ancillary task one. I can
see that there are still some improvements to be made for this
billboard to reach its full potential.
Next week I am going to complete these changes for my
billboard so I can finish my final draft and move on to
my next ancillary task.

I have now completed my final draft of the newspaper billboard
and uploaded all up to date work onto blog.
I am going to begin researching radio advertisement

up radio codes and conventions online so I can begin my report as

I have now found some useful websites and begun the radio codes
and conventions report by finding useful information online and
keeping a list of all website references I have used.
Next week I am going to analyse the information I have
found and look at what information I am going to find
useful in my ancillary task 2.

I have analysed all the information I found online last week and
have found two useful books which have gave me information I
can add to the report.
I need to find videos online to provide me with radio
codes and conventions information and add these to my
report. Next week I will hopefully have finished this task.

As I cannot find any relevant videos to put on my report I am going
to come back to this task at a later date. I have started my first
newspaper analysis for the Manchester Evening News.
Next week I am going to continue the newspaper
analysis which is helping me understand the layout of a
newspaper and what a typical newspaper includes.

I have finished the first newspaper analysis and have now started
to analyse the Salford Advertiser so I have a broader range of ideas
for when I begin to create my main product.
Next week I am going to continue the newspaper
analysis which I have found very helpful for my
coursework.

I have finished the newspaper analysis at home so this week begun
to analyse the Tameside advertiser which is another local
newspaper. I now have developed a wide range of ideas that I can
use for my own newspaper.
Next week I am going to finish the Tameside advertiser
analysis so I can begin analysing radio adverts in
preparation for my second ancillary task.

I have now finished analysing the newspapers and have gained an
understanding of how I will set out my main product.
For next week I am going to find radio adverts for other
local newspapers that I can analyse which will help me
when creating my own advert.

I have struggled to find newspaper radio adverts on the internet so
instead have decided to use other companies that have radio
adverts as they will still be able to give me an idea of what my
radio advert must sound like.
Next week I am going to continue analysing the radio
adverts to get a better idea of the codes and
conventions of radio adverts rather than the
information I have already received from creating the
report.

This week I have finished analysing these radio adverts and I am
now prepared for when I create my own. I have written a short
script which I am going to use for my own radio advert which
should be approximately 25 seconds, an average time for a radio
advert.
Next week I am going to record the script for my radio
advert and begin editing it to make it sound as
professional and effective as the adverts I have
analysed.

Mon W/B 30/12/13
(Detailed Weekly Summary)
As somebody is using the recording equipment I have not been
able to record for my radio advert this week so I will come back to
this task at a later date. Instead I have created a survey of ten
questions online which I have emailed to different people and
posted of social networking sites in hope of getting a variety of
responses from all different people.
The people I have asked to take the survey for my
newspaper will have one week to respond and then I
can use the results to help me make my newspaper
appeal to its target audience.

I have collected the results from my survey and 21 people have
responded which is quite a high number. There is also a mix of
both male and female which is important as I want my newspaper
to appeal to both genders. I am now analysing the results so that I
can make my newspaper as professional and appealing as possible
so these results will help me to do that.
Next week I am going to complete analysing the results
from my survey and then start to think about how I can
apply these responses to my newspaper in order to
make my main product as successful as possible.

This week I have completed analysing and started an ideas
generation map where I have written down my ideas for the
newspaper. From this I will be able to see which of my ideas would
be successful and if they are suitable or not.
I am going to continue with this ideas generation map
next week as I think this is a very important aspect to
my planning.

I have now finished the idea map and have some clear ideas of
what I am going to feature in my newspaper. I have begun to write
up a summary of this, choosing which stories and headlines will be
the most successful.
Next week I will finish writing this summary so I have a
clear idea of what my newspaper will look like and what
stories, headlines and images I am going to put in it.

I have now finished this summary which has definitely made it
easier for when I begin my main product. I have a clear idea of
what I am going to put on my newspaper and have a vision of what
it is going to look like.
The next step for preparing the main product which is a
newspaper is to create layout plans. This will make the
creation of the newspaper even easier as the design of it
will already be created.

I have begun making the layout plans; using the other newspapers
I have analysed to help me make these seem as professional as
possible.
In preparation for next week I am going to have a look
at some other local newspapers to give myself a better
idea of what I need to do for it to look like a real
newspaper.

I have now finished 2 sets of layout plans which I could use for my
newspaper. I have decided on the layout plan which I think looks
best and this will be the one I use to help me set out the main
product.
I need to take the images for my newspaper now I am
ready to put them on so this week at home I am going
to take the photographs ready for next week.

(Detailed Weekly Summary)
I have taken numerous images over the weekend and have now
picked my most effective ones to put on the newspaper. I have
opened the layout plan and started to fit these photographs in. I
also have uploaded the masthead which I created at the start of
the year for my billboard and placed this in the primary optical
area. This keeps the branding of my newspaper products
throughout all my tasks.
I still need to take images for my adverts in the
newspaper which I did not get round to doing last week.
This is something I am going to do for next week so I can
complete my newspaper as soon as possible.

This week I have designed the headlines for my articles and placed
them on the layout plan. I have decided to use font impact as this
seems very professional and realistic, similar to what has been
used on the other newspapers I have analysed. I have also begun
to create the colour scheme for my newspaper which is: red white
and black as this was the most popular choice from my survey. This
also keeps the same colour scheme from my billboard which is also
very professional.
I now need to write the articles for my newspaper
ensuring that I make them very factual and write them
in a similar way to how other newspapers do. This will
make my newspaper as professional as possible. I am
going to do this at home so that next week I can just
copy and paste them into my layout plan.

As some of my articles are too long and others are too short this
week I have edited them so they fit in with the text boxes I created
on my layout plan. This makes sure they fit in with the design of
the newspaper so I do not have to stray away from the layout plan
too much.
I now have the articles, photographs and headlines in
place so for next week I just need to make sure I have
the images for my adverts.

With the photographs I now have taken, I have created the adverts
for my newspaper. This was relatively easy as I just had to slot
them in where the empty spaces were on my newspaper.
I still have some finishing touches to do on my
newspaper so I am going to ensure that they are done
next week so I can move onto my evaluation.

To make my newspaper seem as realistic as possible I have used
today’s lesson to edit it and make sure everything is inline where it
should be. I have also included captions and subtitles to make the
newspaper as factual and realistic as I can.
I have finished my main product which has taken me
quite a short time due to the extensive amount of
planning I have done prior. The layout plans have made
the actual making of my newspaper very quick and easy
to do. Next week I am going to create a focus group on
Facebook to find out other people’s opinions on my
newspaper and whether it is successful or not.

As I am waiting for more people to respond on my focus group I
have decided to return to the ancillary task 2 which was to create a
radio report. I have found the script I wrote at the beginning of the
year and recorded myself and uploaded it onto the computer.
Next week I am going to edit this recording using Adobe
in order to add sound effects and make it sound as
professional as possible.

I have completed the editing in this lesson and now have my
ancillary task 2 completed. I have also started to analyse my
responses from the focus group I created a couple of weeks ago.
At home I am going to continue this analysis sothat next
week I can answer the three other evaluation questions.

I have started the other evaluation questions now reflecting on my
main product. I am using Microsoft word to type up drafts of my
evaluation work before I change the essays onto other
programmes as it is easier to edit and change on word.
Next week I will continue with the evaluation work as
everything else in my coursework has been completed.

I have finished the next evaluation question which leaves me with
only one more question to complete.
I now only have one more evaluation question to
complete which I am going to begin at home to ensure I
have it finished for the next lesson.

In this lesson I have now finished the final evaluation question to a
good standard. I am happy with my responses to the questions and
pleased with my overall product.
All that I have left to do is to change my evaluation
answers by presenting them on different types of media
such as an audio recording, PowerPoint presentations
and using Prezzi. I will then have completed my
advanced portfolio project.
