1. Memorial Day Highlighted by Little League All Star Game

Parents and children of all ages gathered May 27 to watch the American and National
League battle it out at the annual Major League All Star Game. The high scoring game
saw much action and provided entertainment for those in attendance. Other festivities
included the Minor League All Star Game and the Home Run Derby.
Things kicked off with the American League’s five-run first inning. This was started by
pitcher and would-be game MVP Aidan McDonough helped his cause on the offensive
side by reaching base and scoring on a wild pitch. Following was a two-run double by
Jack Luca and RBI singles by Eamon Walsh and John Hoey to make it 5-0 in the
American League’s favor. McDonough then did his job on the mound by striking out two
and keeping the National League scoreless.
The AL continued the scoring in the second inning with a triple from Dan McAullife who
was knocked in with an RBI single from the game’s lone female participant Annie Berry,
making it 6-0 and showing that there is a place for girls in baseball. Once again
McDonough made his presence felt by striking out the side in the bottom of the inning,
recording a staggering five strikeouts in just two innings pitched.
